Not sure if this has been brought up in another post or not. If it has, I couldn't find it. How do you pronounce Bowie? Bow-e or Boo-e. Let the debate begin. :)

I was always under the impression that it was "Bow-e". That's how I've always pronounced it.

I always say Bow-E.

Boo-E sounds too much like a floating nautical marker type thing. Gets confusing.

That article shows both pronunciations. I'm not saying one is right and the other is wrong. Most people will know what you are talking about when you say Bowie knife. I was talking about the Bowie knife the other day with a co-worker. It drove him nuts when I kept going back and forth between Boo-e and Bow-e. He asked why I wouldn't just pick one and go with it.

I read a biography on Jim Bowie once, and the book said his name was pronounced Boo-E. Don't remember the title. I had to retrain myself to say his name right. Took forever for me to stop calling them Bow-E knives.

Here in Ohio, every one calls them bow-e. Being raised by a black smith, my dad always made sure I said boo-e. Hell now a days it doesn't even matter what its called since there are so many renditions of the bowie design, most people call any large fixed blade a bowie.

It seems as though here in Southern California most of the people I encounter say Bow-ee.
It's the way I've grown up saying it.
That being said, I have encountered some people here who are adamant that the correct and true pronunciation is Boo-ee.

You know someone's not from the south when they say it wrong. They don't say boooo-eeeee;)

I've always heard it as bowie. Bow-eee. Doesn't boo ee sound like buoy? I guess I'm just used to it, but Bowie sounds more defined, while boo ee sounds like a round fat thing.
