Just caught 'Jeopardy' in the other room. It seems that was the question? I always thought the Toothpick was an over-sized double edged dagger...

I've heard of a texas toothpick....is usually a thin elongated bowie style knife.....never heard of the Arkansas version:-)

The Arkansas Toothpick is a Bob Dozier design it's a small 3.5in blade with a double edge.

A Texas Toothpick is a slipjoint. An oversized double edged fixed blade dagger is an Arkansas toothpick.

Neither that dagger, nor Arkansas have much to do with the original Bowie knives that the Bowie boys commissioned/used.

Historically, bowie knives were sometimes called Arkansas toothpicks. I have no idea why. Today it is normally associated with a double edged long dagger.

Because of the Arkansas/James Black story that was cooked up after facts happened.

Mostly yes. I talked with a friend who is a amateur Civil War historian. He says the term "Arkansas Toothpick" was a term basically used by northerners to apply to any of the large side knives often carried by southerners. Correct or not? - I don't know.

My vision of an Arkansas Toothpick is the large Randall that was linked above. The small Dozier double edged knife is probably a lot more useful. Bob can call his knives whatever he wants to.
