I got a cool new Böker knife today and I can't help sharing the the love with you all :) When I browsed the latest Böker catalogue (the German one) I saw that they had the Böker Subcom 42 (non-locking version of the regular Subcom) in pink now! Wow. How cool is that. I'm always looking for girl colors in knives and this one fit the bill exactly. And it's legal to carry in Germany (probably in the UK and some other places, too) so even more points to Böker.

My first impression on this one is very good. Opens up easily and fairly smooth even with the half-stop position due to slip joint construction. Blade is very sharp out of the box. Production quality seems excellent. No blade play whatsoever. I'm looking forward trying this one as an EDC blade.

Here's some pics:

I think this is a really cool option if someone is looking for a nice little blade for a lady friend, significant other, sister or mom. It's legal in a lot of places and most people seem to find it cute and non-threatening.

I got it directly from Boker.de and paid the list price - 42,95 EUR. Bit steep for such a small knife but I REALLY wanted this one :) Not sure what the street price in the United States would be. They are sometimes surprisingly low.

Sure it will serve you well. I have had my Boker Subcom for a few years now. I convexed the blade putting a scalpel sharp hair splitting edge on it. I use it primarily as my money clip. My knife of last resort to test the intestinal fortitude of anyone trying to take my money from me. Though I have used it around sheeple when I don't want them wetting their panties or otherwise freaking out shrieking he's got a knife. You are right it is perceived as a cute nonthreatening little knife. It is in fact an extremely effective defensive tool. I am still amazed at the rock solid grip that tiny little handle provides. No one will be grabbing this knife out of your hand and I have split two foot long pork loins wide open with little more than a flick of the wrist. Very deceptive little tool. Chad's design is simply brilliant.

Not sure the reasoning for a non locking blade. Some kind of asinine European law maybe? I would be concerned about the blade closing on my fingers because it would got right to the bone. It looks like it has the same frame lock as my Subcom

Aloha Suzie_Q,

Darn ya beat me to it. I been busy so I didn't have time to post pics of my Pink42...Great pics BTW, and I am glad you like it. Keep us posted on how it does, and any other colors you'd like to see the SubCom in?

God bless and Happy Vday:cool:

Aloha bro!

Yes...due to a law that I know exists in Germany and possibly other Euro places: If it can open one handed, then it cannot lock. If it can open two handed, then it's okay to lock. (??? don't ask, I didn't!) The designs of mine that have "42" on them indicate it is a slip joint of an existing model, like the Trance 42, SubCom 42...the frame lock cutout is still present on these, as Boker uses a HUGE detent ball to make it a slippy, as opposed to the traditional method. As Suzie_Q stated, it even "locks" in that mid way position, as a traditional slippy does. However, there is NO way to make the blades of the 42's lock in the open position like their "non 42" counterparts.

God bless, stay frosty!

I'd love to see it in orange. Do you know where I can get one of these, not in pink? I live in NYC and the knife laws here are really restrictive...
