Broken kiln brick, how do I fix it?

Good evening all. I have an older cress front load kiln that I use for heat treating. Not long after I got it a large section of brick broke away from the front edge of the kiln. I used furnace cement (in a calling tube) to put it back in place but since then it has broken away another time and is crumbling quite badly. My question is how can I replace the section of brick, or is there any sort of clay that I can use to fill in the crumbled away section? Thanks for any help you all can provide!

The simplest is to get some soft firebricks and try to remove the bad one and fit in a replacement. Or, you might be able to cut half the bad brick out and trim a soft brick to fit in the space.

This is what I was thinking. The area that is crumbling is on the floor of the kiln and that brick extends under the brick for the left wall. The biggest thing I’m trying to figure out is how to cut the back border of the brick free. The two side cuts should be pretty easy.

You may need to cut the brick up in pieces to get it out. Then the new brick may need to be cut to slide part unf=der the side and then set the rest down on the bottom.

TIP:
Soak the bricks in water for a minute before inserting, then use a mortar made from satanite and powdered brick dust to cement it in place.
