Does anyone know what happened to Brous Blades? They don't seem to be exhibiting anymore, or coming out with new products. I do hope Jason is ok.

Seems like Brous just disappeared from the knife world....

Can't say I'm sad to see him go. I have a first gen Bionic, and it was like a 3/4 finished product. However, I got it used on the exchange for pretty cheap and I figured it would be an opportunity for me to learn how to use a file., Its beat to hell as I've used the crap out of it, but don't really carry it anymore.

Haven't liked any of his designs since.

Didn't know they "disappeared."

Haven't been that impressed w/their folders but I've got a couple of Brous balis that I think are very nice and I'll buy more if I see any others that I like.

Well, here's the thing, I am not really a fan of... these brands, that are kind of all like, bro'd out, tactical operator type folks who want to tell you they have something to do with the military or whatever, you can tell they wear Oakleys in their sleep, lifted-truck-nuts etc. brands like Brous, which I was not in the knife community in their heyday, but I was under the impression that they sold their stuff heavily on their "USA-Christ-Military" shtick and all that... and then lied about production being in China, or, uh "imported" or whatever they want to call that now. Shady stuff, like with Hoback? I actually might be confusing some of it for Hoback, but they did similar things with the production.

But yeah, Spyderco, look at them - they support military and police without being "HEY, WE'RE SPYDERCO. BE PREPARED. AMERICA. WE'RE PATRIOTS, FOR THE LORD, HELPING SHEEPDOGS WHO ARE THEIR BROTHER'S KEEPER BE READY 24/7" vibe. They just... do their thing. They are not "loud" about it. When companies are really super loud about it, it sets off alarm bells as I see them as trying to basically trick people based on values and stuff that folks get real fired up about, to sell knives.

Brous, Strider, Hoback are just a few that are like this.

Probably just looking for the next design to copy.

Don't think the 2 balis of theirs that I have are copies of anything.

Haven't seen any others that look like the Stonewashed "Blackcell" or the Burnt Bronze "B3," which are 2 out of 17 balis in my collection.

Also, FWIW, there is still a Brous Blades website up and running showing knives in stock and available for sale.

. . .

Well, I never got the impression that Brous ever pushed a religious or military connection and AFAIK all of their knives are made at their HQ in CA, except for those that are made (in China?) for their import line that I just learned about.

FWIW, here's what Brous has to say about itself: About Brous Blades

What I hated to see was Brous copied his own designs by making an identical import line and devaluing the American made line up.

Wasn't aware of that but how would a cheaper made import line devalue an obviously better American made line up?

This doesn't seem to hurt ZT in light of what Kershaw produces under the KAI USA umbrella. Artisan Cutlery does the same thing but offering the same knives in different materials from basic G10/D2 up to Ti/M390. These are just 2 examples and I'm sure there are other companies that also do this.

To me, it's just a way to diversity their product line in order to make more money which is about "American" as apple pie. LOL! ;)

Because there were the same designs. ZT and Kershaw have different designs.

Not that different recently. LOL! ;)

BTW, I don't want to come off as some huge Brous fanboy. I'm not. I only own the 2 balis of theirs that I mentioned before and I seldom bother to look at what they are currently selling -- import or otherwise . . .

but if you KNOW that the import versions are just cheap copies of better made American versions of the same knife, what's the harm?

Those who can't afford the better made versions of the knives can buy the imports and those who only want the better made in the USA knives can buy those too. They serve 2 different markets and I just don't see the problem.

Gen-1 Bionic of mine was excellent for such a small flipper (and I typically hate flipper knives).
Most folks at the tine (cira 2014) were quite enamored with their Bionic knives.
Video link below to a full di-ass/re-ass that I did being fairly anal about the action:

Bionic Dis-Ass/Re-Ass

Jason was in my mind very honest about where he came from (working in fathers machine shop to his own garage shop documenting with many photos along the way) along with his knives.

FWIW, here's a pic of the 2 Brous balis that I own. Both are extremely well made and I've not seen anything else like them in the few years that I've been collecting kinves of all kinds, including balis.

The Blackcell (bottom) is the better "flipper" and the B3 (above) is more of a "show piece."

The color of the B3 is washed out by my sh*tty handheld camera. It looks much better than this. I'll try to post a better pic of it later.
