So I bought a buck 110 about 2 months ago and I don't use it alot although I do want to start EDCing it soon. I opened it today and found rust on the blade D: I cleaned it off but is there anything I can do to prevent this from happening often?

Also there is green stuff, plumberdv said it may be tarnish, on the lower bolster and I need some advice on how to take it off, he gave me a few suggestions I just want to know what alot of people say.

I scrub mine with Brasso, then with warm water and liquid soap, rinse it clean, then wipe it down with oil.

dont worry about it. wearing/ carrying/ using will take care of those little blemish marks. really. :D

Brasso like Bear said. There is something else some guys like called Fliz or something like that. Thing is you'll loose that nice patina. Try a some warm water on a rag and a thumnail.

i use flitz! :D

it works great and puts a real nice polish on it. it can be used on almost all metals i believe so even the blade can be cleaned with the stuff.

if you wanna keep that patina on there you could take a little bit of oil on a clean cloth and rub the trouble spots to remove the green tarnish.

i like to keep mine shiny but over the years i've realized that i can never keep them that clean if i use them on a regular basis or leave it in sheath for a while.

so...i bought two! one that i polished up and now sits in my knife display case (out of the sheath so it doesnt patina), and one user which gets a patina but doesnt sit in the leather case long enough for it to tarnish (cause its a user).

best thing to do is keep it outta the sheath if you plan on letting it sit for a long time. otherwise its all good.

i bought a 10 dollar tube of flitz 4 years ago and still havent gone through half of it. a little goes a long way with that stuff and its easily available in most stores.

have a blast :D

i dont use my closet queens so they dont get dirty..
edc ...
hot water and dawn followed
with drop of mineral oil on blade and rocker pins
{{dont like the taste of wd 40 on my tomatoes!}}
safe for ducks so ok with me!

Come on Dave anybody who hits the jar has to like WD-40.I use it on everthing,my potatos,on salad,I even splash some on for cologne.DM:)

A product that I've had great sucess with for years is Tri-Flow. I soak couple of patches with it and make the last swabs when cleaning the smoke poles. It's amazing the crud that still shows up on them even after a pretty brisk cleaning with soap and hot water. I run a dry one down, to remove the excess and I never get any rust in my bores.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want it on a knife I was going to use for cutting up foods though.

the smell of flitz is pretty strong as well but it disapates alot faster than brasso. the smell of brasso clings in the air and stays there for a while.

Products like Flitz and Simichrome work great, but are somewhat expensive. Brasso works well also, and is cheaper, but always seemed to me to be a bit more abrasive. Really, almost any metal polishing compound will do the job. However, if you store the knife in a leather sheath, that green stuff (known as verdigris) will reappear. Its caused by the brass reacting with the tanic acid in the leather. The tanic acid is used in the leather tanning process; a process which (go figure) gets its name from the tanic acid (or so my old chemistry instuctor told me once upon a time).

it is an acquired taste!:)

i find wd 40 on veggies is some what reminisce of
useing the dip stick from a dodge slant 6 for shiskabobs;)
or with out the vinegar on salad

I use "never dull" found in parts stores. Works great-1 can goes a heck of a long way. Its like a treated cotton wadding-just pull off a chunk and polish.

I like Mothers too..I was using soft TP but Leroy out in Calif says use a cloth..
