Buck 110 - Determine Production Date Absent a Date Symbol

Buck 110s produced from 1973 through 1985 may or may not have a production symbol. Is there anyway to determine the production date of the knives that do not have any dots or symbols but simply say BUCK 110 USA?

The reason I am asking is because I am on the search for a pre-1981 with 440c steel and have come across multiple 110s with just BUCK 110 USA and no date symbol but am not sure where in the range of 1973 - 1985 it falls.
 
Use the sticky at the top of the Buck page to date your knife or find the one you want. From 73-85 they used the dot method, prior to that is when you need to look for the subtle differences.

Inlay rivets: 2 (tiny)
Rocker rivet: Stainless, headed.
Sheath: Black leather. C.
Packaging: 2 piece yellow box about 2” high, Use and Care leaflet. **

Variation 3 (1972-1974)19
Stamp: BUCK, 110, U.S.A., left hand. Read with tip point up, 440C steel.
Blade/Butt rivets: Visible on both sides of bolsters, 2 rear, 1 front.
Inlay rivets: 2 (small headed)
Rocker rivet: Stainless, headed.
Sheath: Black leather. C.
Packaging: 2 piece yellow box about 2” high-(4), Use and Care leaflet dated- 4/4/72-(3),1/73-(1), white tissue-(1), “Attention” leaflet orange-(3).

Variation 1 above doesn't have the model number. After these, they started with the two dots.

Just eliminate the Four-Dotters and everything with a date stamp from your search......all the rest will be 440C.
