Buck 110 Sheath Question...

I’m travelling for work this week and on my supply run to walmart yesterday I couldn’t help but swing by the knife counter.
I’m usually a pocket-clip folder guy. Stumbled across a Buck Vantage Select 345 and for the price, I’m very pleased.
What really caught my eye was the price on the 110s. Back home in Atlanta they go for $34.99 but in Greenville, MS they are still $28.99. Knife itself looked great and I figured it was a "good deal" but I just could not get by that nylon sheath.

Today I’m thinking I should go back for the 110 and buy a nice leather sheath later which leads to my question:

How do you 110 veterans prefer to carry yours? Pocket carry? Nylon Sheath? Custom Leather?

I realize it's mostly a matter of personal preference...just curious.

I prefer leather. This is the sheath I made for my 2 dot Buck 110. It's entirely lined in suede.

I only carry a 110 as a belt knife and I prefer the older fold over sheath (see the two on the left below). However, If I'm going to carry a fancy model, I usually carry it in one of the nylon sheaths because I think they are easier on a knife's finish than the leather.

CM's leather sheaths are impeccable. He did one for my Nathan Dewey Fiend that will (most likely) live longer than I do.

Stock leather is good unless hunting-the nylons are good to just throw in the washer if blood and guts get on them.

I prefer to carry my 110 in a leather sheath too. Plus, the ones Plumber shows are attractive. DM

Ditto what Longbow said. I was not thrilled with the nylon sheath until I actually used it. I'm really liking the horizontal carry, and of course you could always pick up a leather sheath if you really felt the need. For $28.99 I'd say buy one and use the nylon sheath for a while. You might be pleasantly surprised. Nothing beats leather (Charlie Mike's example is beautiful) but for everyday use the nylon sheath does pretty well.

I use a custom open to sheath. It was made by one of the forum guys.

Thanks for everyone's insight/advice.

2TONYB,
Do you mind if I ask you who made your open top leather?

Am I the only pocket carry 110 lover? I did change to a back pocket carry as my front pockets became more full over the years. Yesterday, for example, I carried my Custom Shop 110 in S30V/nickel silver/blue Dymondwood in my LHB pocket all day, a Vic Farmer in my LHF pocket. I didn't notice either one.

I pocket carry my 112 and sometimes a 110.

The Cabela's Seven-Pocket Hikers have a small knife-sized, velcroed pocket on the back of the right leg that works great.

I've given up on the jeans type pants. Just not practical. Too tight and not NEAR enough pockets for for carrying all my guns and knives and phones and ammo and other stuff.

:)

I like the looks of the leather, but for real world use, I prefer the nylon. As mentioned above, pros of the nylon include...

1) Ease of maintenance if you use it outdoors, hunting, etc. For instance, we had a very rainy deer season this year. I managed to fill both of my deer tags, but in doing so, I also got my sheath very wet, and also some blood and fat on it. It cleaned easily with a quick wipe down, and required no additional maintenance. After letting it dry a bit, I was able to put the knife back in the sheath, and put it away for the season without worrying about it.
2) Horizontal belt carry.
3) You can store the knife in the nylon sheath without worrying about corrosion
4) Although some might disagree with this, I think care being equal, the nylon will outlast the leather
5) Nylon is much less bulky than the leather sheath. Compare the two side by side whith the knife in the sheaths, and they nylon is much thinner, and less noticeable on the belt. For that matter, a nylon sheathed 110 is significantly less bulky than a leather sheathed 112 (See picture, although the picture doesn't show the difference well enough). In fact, I wish Buck would sell a nylon sheath for the 112. I've been thinking about buying one of the Paperstone 112's just to get the nylon sheath.
