Been looking to get myself a custom Buck 112, I have a few bucks and noticed a lot on inconsistencies with the quality, rivets sticking out more than they should and gaps on lockbar etc.

Is the custom stuff better quality? I mean ill be dropping $200 on the Ironwood, S30v, nickel & engraving so would expect it to be better than their $60 base model but thought id ask you guys for your experiences.

How is the quality of the sheathes as well?

I have an Ironwood 112 from the Custom Shop. Rivets and gaps on mine are satisfactory in my opinion. Not the greatest pics here but they're all I've got at the moment. Knife was built in April 2022.

When you order a 112 from the Custom Shop, they build it with the rocker pin hidden under the handle slabs whether you order rivets or not. I guess that would be a good thing because the rocker pin is the pin that sticks out more than the others on most of my other 112's.

I can't give any advice on the supplied sheaths because I don't use them. I carry my 112's in my pocket and on the rare occasions that I do use a sheath, It's one of Buck's nylon sheaths with a snap closure.

NICE !

Over the years I have looked at many Custom shop 112's..In the Old Custom shop you could probably count on slightly better matched Stag and horn than today but as far as fit and finish it's about the same as any LE..It's really all about the Craftsman making YOUR knife. Like all human endeavors some are slightly different/better than others. But I haven't held a bad one! As far as figured Ironwood sometimes is is absolutely fantastic! But I call that "Luck of the Bin"...

I have a couple 112’s from the custom shop and the build quality of them compared to the standard offering 112 is noticeably better. I doubt you will be disappointed! Everything about them is better, the action, lockup, frame fit, etc.

My Custom Shop Brass/Walnut and Nickel/Ironwood both in S30V.

Very nice!! Thanks for the pic it really does help me decide seeing the Ironwood outside of the photo in the custom shop. It really does look fantastic.

Because the rivets were a main point in your post I’ll point out the front one runs right through that ironwood knot and there’s a little chunk missing under the pinhead. That may bother some but I don’t care about it, it’s just a little piece and I think it actually adds more character to the knife since the scales have a textured feel to them already with the grain of the wood popping up. I really like that they didn’t finish these to a super smooth finish.

I can see how that may bother people but I think it adds to the charm the wood being a natural product and all. Its really just if the rivets are raised and create a hotspot or another manmade quality/finish issue that would bother me. Weird I know but I want the craftsman to take pride in what there doing, dont want my custom piece to be mass produced trash.

In love with that ironwood ! And as you said about the piece missing, "I think it actually adds more character to the knife".

Thanks! The other side doesn’t have the horizontal grain lines but the colors match nicely and there’s plenty of swirls. I really like how they do the custom shop etch on the plunge grind, it makes it pop.

Mine has oak grips and fit and finish is as close to perfect as you could ask. I liked it so much I ordered one with walnut grips for my BIL.
