Maybe other people who have this knife can answer this.
I have a 192 Vanguard with the wood handle and brown leather sheath. My knife fits really loosely inside the sheath even when the button is snapped.

Does the leather sheath for the Vanguard come with a plastic insert? I know some Buck models come with a plastic insert inside the sheath. Mine did not. I've had the knife for a couple years and it's always bugged me how the knife rattles around inside the sheath. The knife slides up and down and front to back inside the sheath. The strap secures the knife from falling out; it's just very loose.

Did your Buck Vanguard with a leather sheath come with a plastic insert?

There is on the canvas sheaths but I don't think I've ever seen an insert on a leather sheath.

My 192 does not have an insert. Rattles a little forward, and sideways, but still very secure. I trust it.

My 192 Vanguard with the wood handle and brown leather sheath does not have a plastic insert either. There is a little movement, but not to bad.

Mine are the same as everyone else. No liner and just a little movement but not bad and doesn't really rattle.

Try using a small piece of cardboard, thin gauge, to hold knife steady. It works for me. I hate the sound of a knife rattling away when I move.
