Buck 277 ATS-34 problem

This month I have ordered via Internet businesses two separate Buck 277 Alpha Folders advertised with ATS-34 blade steel. I was sent knives with 12C27M Sandvik steel. I'm kinda frustrated not getting what I ordered. Does such an item exist, or am I barking up the wrong tree? I have read random sales literature claiming it to be 154CM while praising the qualities of its ATS-34 blade... but they'll send you 12C27M Sandvik I am sure. Your input is appreciated. Many thanks.

I know that the Sandvik is a current steel as ats-34 was a mid 90's high grade steel. I have also seen them available in 154cm.

A while back (3yrs.) Buck switched to Sandvik steel and that replaced 154-cm. You may still be able to get a 154-cm Alpha off the bay but have them check and verify its on the blade before you order. DM
 
I ran into the same problem recently when ordering a 154CM Alpha folder and received the Sandvik instead. Some websites just don't update their product info like they should. Be that as it may I'm pleased with the Sandvik. As David stated, getting the dealer to verify before you order is about your only choice at the retail level.
 
ATS-34 has been extinct for many years at Buck. I have several Buck Alpha Dorados with Sandvik steel and have been very impressed so far. Enjoy your high quality knife.
 
If you want ATS-34 your best bet is the auction sites, and for sale by owner postings...
Correctly listed and shown (photos of tang stamp or etch) seem to fetch a premium...seems there's folks out there that really like that ole ATS-34 steel...
 
Some websites are just irresponsible about updating the info on knives......and some just lie to sell more knives (they know people often keep them rather than send them back).

You got a steel inferior to the one you were told you would get.

I'd send it back (and I'd make a note to stay away from that seller in the future).
 
UPDATE: Received BUCK 277 ( from reputable dealer, knife #3 ) and guess what? They sent 12C27M Sandvik although it was advertised and verified 154CM verbally to me. From the responses I have received--thank you all--the 277 is not available on the current retail market in either ATS-34 or 154CM. Regardless what I order I get 12C27M. Yes, it is a good steel and Bos heat treated making it a very fine knife typical of BUCKs exceptionally high quality product, but advertising and marketing with many Internet suppliers borders on deception. I don't want to say this but caveat emptor and that is sad commentary especially during the Christmas season when expectations run high and returning gifts a real nuisance. What I really wanted for Christmas was a 277 in ATS-34 or 154CM to match my Alpha Hunter fixed blade. However, I do have a fine alternative in hand. I appreciate your helpful responses! Thank you very much.
