For some reason, I started picking up Buck Toothpick folders a couple of years ago. I didn't really want to collect them when I started, was just curious.
Well, now I have 10. Plus a Yellow Horse custom.
Here is a pic.

From left to right.
Tortoise Shell, Stag, Amber Jig Bone, Black Lip Pearl, Pink Bone, Yellow Delvron (SP?), Green Bone, Wood, Smooth White bone, and a Pearl (poly).
The turquoise one is the Yellow Horse..
All of these are made in China by Buck (the YH is a Chinese knife, too) .
All are NIB except for the poly Pearl. The only way I have seen the poly Pearl for sale is as a set with a Trapper. I only wanted the toothpick, so i just got the used one when I found it, separately.
Now, my question, what other materials has the Toothpick been produced in?
I have found a Red Bone that I will purchase this week. I can't find a REAL MOP or even if there is such a production model. Nor have I seen any reference to a Blue Bone.
Anyone have more info on these?
And I'll probably sell these soon as I have to get rid of some cutlery. I will wait until I am sure I have as many as I can get hold of, first. Then they will go as a set.
TIA

Nice looking collection. I really wish Buck would put the scales of the Chinese knives on their USA products. I would really like to see a Buck Cadet with that jigged bone.

Well, you've come out of the closet so I guess I will too. I would probably never have admitted a fondness for the Chinese made slippies if you hadn't brought it up first. I just love the handle variations. If only they were on USA knives.... I'm currently working on the 389 Canoes and have 9 of the 12 handles that I could identify. The Toothpicks probably have all the same handles. Displayed top down are Tortoise, Poly Pearl, Pink Smooth Bone, Brown Jigged Bone, Black Pearl, Poly Yellow, Red Smooth Bone, Yellow Pearl, and Blue Smooth Bone. Yet to be acquired are White Smooth Bone, Stag, and Wood. I was going to turn my attention to some of the Trappers and Toothpicks next. I call it fun with cheapies as most except the Pearl and Stag can be had in the $10-$15 range if you shop.

I am not sure if we can get the blue or MOP in the toothpick. I can get the red, but only from Canada, would you believe it? Same with the Green bone. Had to get that one from Canada, too.
I was hoping someone had some knowledge of what was available, or WAS produced.
Nice collection, by the way.
I think I have averaged about 12.00 ea knife with the Stag and Black Pearl. They sell retail for close to 20.00 (NOT MSRP, that is closer to 25.00), but I have managed to get them here and there.
They may just get put back, but I have SOOOO many folders and fixed blades, I am looking at some kind of multi drawer storage as I write this.
A friend has an antique wooden tool chest (I think it was for a lapidary) with 8 drawers about 1-2" high 18" deep, and 30-36" wide. PERFECT knife storage
I have been bugging him to sell it to me for several years, and I think he is about to cave. I hope so.
As I said, I may just sell the ones I have in a couple of months. I have a Red bone on line, but it will cost about 22.00 shipped, I guess I just need to bite it.
So the whole set, with the red bone, will have to go for about 130.00 plus shipping. The Yellow Horse will be part of the package, but not the case they are in. That is my Taurus PT145 case, so I have to keep it.
Here are a few of my blades. I have about as many more put away.

I am pretty sure that most of those were first offered through Smoky Mountain? Because of the arrangement we had, I dont know what handles they did and I dont know quantities. I HATE not knowing but sometimes thats the way it goes.
Maybe someone has a catalog showing all the variations offered that they can post here?

Robert/ (robotech), you say you've found a red Toothpick so that makes the only difference in available handles I see between our two sets is you have a green smooth bone Toothpick and I have a yellow lip pearl and a blue Canoe. The Poly Pearl Toothpick came in two different sets, in one set it was paired with a Poly Trapper and the other set it was paired with a Poly Canoe which is the set I purchased. Two of the Canoes come without shields, the Poly Pearl and the White Bone. It appears to be the same in the Toothpicks. The white smooth bone Canoe with no shield would be a perfect knife for scrimshaw. I believe I've seen one with a Mermaid. There are two variations of shields on the Wood. Earlier was the hammer and anvil and the current is "BUCK". I've also seen the shield on the Wood centered and not centered on the handle. Every one of my canoes is well made and Buck Co. can be proud to offer them, China or not. I'm sure that's more than anyone wants to know about these but I'm full out of the closet now. /Roger

I am, too. So far, the red bone is the last I can find any reference to, and I am buying that one on Wednesday. Hopefully have it in two weeks.
But, I have a feeling I will be surprised and will eventually see at LEAST a MOP version.
we'll see.

I have one each of the Toothpick and Canoe, great fit ,finish, looking for the Redbone, and I am suppose to be on
a knife buying diet.:D

I had a Buck toothpick several years ago that was different from the ones in your pic. It was brown bone with "super" steel of some kind, I think maybe ATS-34 or some such and, as I think I recall, was made by Camillus for Buck. I picked it up cheap online at the time and it was my all time favorite slipjoint. It went by the wayside when I spent some time unemployed and sold all my good knives.

Edit: Just did some research and the knife was called "California Toothpick", model 333.

Been there, got the t-shirt(s).
Between bad times and divorces, I have "lost" more knives and guns than I can buy before I die.

I've gotta say, I've still got my wife (30 years this year) AND all my toys. The toys will go before her.

Hear is a pair of 333 California Toothpicks. One is brown jigged bone and I think the other is called Stagalon. They are large, 5" closed and 9" open. I believe the Stagalon is plastic and not actual stag. These were both snared off eBay on the same day. One came up with a "Buy it Now" for a good price the same day the auction for the other was ending. Sometimes you just get lucky.
