Buck 301 BladeForums stamp?

The Connection to BF:
The 2018 annual BF Traditional sub-forum knife was a 2 blade Buck 301 sold through SK Blades.
Flat ground CPM154 blades, long pull on the clip. The Spey/Budding blade was omitted in one of the many polls. (I voted to retain the Spey/Budding blade) Nickel Silver/German Silver bolsters.) Natural fall/shed Elk covers (no Elk were killed), sourced from Idaho, Washington, and Montana.
Every feature of the 2018 BF knife was decided by a poll, from which Buck knife (we had a choice of every model Buck made, folding and fixed blade), blade steel & grind, and all the other features.
Cost was $79.00.
Here is mine.

At the time, it was my most costly knife.
It is also my first BF knife.

I agree that they just had the extra blades around in storage & decided to put them into something rather than just waste them. A lot of cutlery companies have done that.
Honestly most if not all manufacturing companies of anything for that matter have done the same.

I missed out on the BF Buck in Stag, but I did get a Micarta version that was released later on the same 301 pattern with one of the "Buck of the month" models.
They need to make more of these two blade 301's 👍

Awesome 😎

And an interesting note, this recent release sold out in a flash. Folks should take note that a decent affordable knife won’t last long.

The 2018 BladeForums Buck 301 run had some real problems with inconsistent handle symmetry and gaps between the scales and liners. I had to send one back to be corrected. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT.

79 Dollars
Yep. A bargain even back when the max price was $100, supposedly "to give everyone that wants one can get it."
There was what? 750 of the 2018 forum knife presold?
I think the $100 cap was history by 2020 or 2021. The polling was gone around the same time.

The 2020 BF Viper swayback was $118, IIRC. A steal at that price.

If it were 420HC I'd have bought one, because it's almost like a giant 305 lancer which is interesting
I like my 305's most due to the configuration , not that I don't also love their size as well.

I'm curious. You would have paid the $150.00 for it in 420HC?

I paid $160 for a custom shop 505 in 420HC with elk covers, and payed $150 for my '89 305 in stag that is also 420HC.
but this knife I'd really have to think about it.
I tend to prefer my smaller pocket knives most and I don't know how much I'd carry it, in a 303 or 309 size absolutely I'd snatch one right up.

I value 420hc over " super steels " because I can sharpen it.

I’m going off topic I know but I agree with the principle of what you’re saying.

I do find it funny when some folks will rag on certain knives or steels because of how inferior they are. Then you see pics of their knives and they’ve clearly never seen any work, at least nothing that would put them to hard work.
I use knives everyday for work, hunting etc. and while I do like good edge retention, something that can be easily touched up is worth its weight in gold.

Since we are off topic, CPM154 is happily middle of the road between simple stainless steel and super steels. IMO, a great choice.

On the green stealth 301, I say that Buck should make that scale material available on their custom shop. I also wish it was a single spring, but I like it anyway!

I understand the perceived value even to a person who doesn't seem to use their knives very much, because I certainly don't use most of my knives heavily and who am I to talk.
I get the preference, it's just not something I go for.

Back to the knife itself, I think it's about the perfect pattern with the clip point and sheeps foot.
I don't have much experience with large pen patterns, but in general I really love serpentine frames especially serpentine pens with a blade on each end.
On the vintage 305 and 309 with single springs they have much more snap and better walk & talk, I don't know what the W&T is like these days ( my 302 was pretty snappy ) but just knowing that having a single spring could give it better W&T would have me voting for that.
It would also be slimmer which I'm sure is the reason others are wishing for a single spring.
I also really like the green, ir reminds me of the green paper stone they used to use and had offered on some 300 series made for Boone & Crockett.

Hickory n steel Hickory n steel , thanks for your detailed explanation, I can understand why and have done the same in similar circumstances.

Single spring(slimmer) would be great!
Since a normal 301 has three springs, this IS slimmer than a standard 301.

I'm pretty sure I'm not the only "one spring per blade" fan in the house. ;)

I think the only time Buck has manufactured a knife with more than one blade per spring in house was the 700 series.
(The early 300's did, but they were not made in-house. They were made by Schrade and Camillus.)
