Happy Friday, fellow Buck fans - it's nearly the weekend!

My septuagenarian mother asked for a 'penknife' to use on train journeys. Living as we do in the UK, I thought it a good excuse to order a Buck Ridgeway. Actually, two Buck Ridgeways: one for her and one for me. ;)

She's developed rheumatoid arthritis and with no half stop I thought it would be a good plan. It also looks like an elegant little knife. They arrived yesterday and I must say I'm impressed. It's the only Chinese made Buck I own, and it is very nicely made. The only thing I'd point out to Buck is that on their UK official store it is incorrectly labelled as a 318:

Tsk tsk! :p

Burlwood scales, steel liners and bolster, 420hc steel (but without the Bos HT). It's a lovely little UK legal slipjoint. Well done Buck! Now, if only you'd start making 'em in the USA... ;)

We're going up to visit her next week, so we'll see what she reckons.

That's a nice looking knife. My only problem is the 317 model number. That should be reserved for the classic 317 Camillus contract knife. It also brings up the question of how many other Buck models are not available in the US.

Acording to Buck's own blurb on the knife, it was specifically designed to comply with European Union knife carry rules.

Gaining its name from the historic Ridgeway National Trail, the folding knife features a reliable slipjoint action and sleek design. The smooth Burlwood handle adds to the knifes elegant and modern style. Its absence of a lock mechanism makes the 317 Ridgeway accessible to customers in the UK as well as other international markets with EDC regulations.

I thought you would have a comment about this. I also thought you might want one to make your collection complete for all 317 variations.

And the Ridgeway is a cracking bit of England. It’s an 80+ mile ancient track from the Chilterns (where I was born incidentally) down to North Wessex. It has been walked since prehistoric times.
