I picked up a Buck 327 Nobleman today. If you are not familiar with this knife, it is one of the shrinking list of imported Buck knives. I have been wanting to pick one up for some time now, but kept putting it off (so many knives to buy, so little cash.) I've had the SRM 723 for a couple months and have always thought it was a very similar knife to the Nobleman. After getting the Buck in hand, I think it is pretty much the same knife with minor differences.

The knives are exactly the same size, same blade shape and grind, and use the same screws/standoffs/studs/washers/clip/pivot. The differences I have found are in the shape of the grip and the finish. The SRM's frame has rounded edges that are highly polished while the Buck's edges are flatter and unpolished. There is also some jimping in the framelock area of the SRM that is not present on the Buck. An obvious difference is in finish in the area around the pivot. The SRM has a bead blasted finish while the Buck has a rough texture that is very similar to the texture found on the SRM 710. One final difference that I see is that Sanrenmu felt the need to remind you of what you are holding and printed, "Stainless steel Folding knife" on the scale. :D Other differences? The Buck has a forever warranty and sales benefit Buck. Good luck getting the SRM serviced for warranty, but it costs a little less.

My point is; I believe Sanrenmu is manufacturing the Nobleman for Buck. I could be wrong, but it seems to be the case. Buck makes awesome knives, maybe they have had some influence on the quality of Sanrenmu's knives.

Now, here are some comparison pics. Buck on bottom/left, SRM on top/right:

BTSOOM. They do look EXTREMELY similar.

i suppose it is possible they are making the knife for buck, but i suspect not.

it is far more likely they just copied the design like the sebenza lookalike. and i guarantee they are not making the sebenza for crk.

Lol, I'll take your word on the sebenza. I haven't taken these two apart yet, but the small parts and machine marks look exactly alike. This just an idea based on my observations. I have no conclusive proof or confirmation.

IIRC you have to buy Sanrenmu knives from Hong Kong.
I can get the Buck for $20 here in the states. Why would I go to the hassle of getting the Sanrnmu. ( a pox on that name. I can never spell the silly thing.)

Yeah, I bought a bunch of them from a Chinese dealer early this year while in my inexpensive knife phase. Now I'm working through my Kershaw phase... I agree, at this point I would prefer to buy the Buck version simply so that my money goes to them and I have a company that will back up my purchase with an awesome warranty.

Sanrenmu's kinda bother me. Even though I'm a fan of byrd or red line/HK knives from other companies. Sanrenmu's seem like they are too inexpensive... I dunno something that feels like a direct knock off that's made in China like that. Weirdly enough I don't have a big issue with SOG knives even with their reputation. Dunno the under 10 dollar price seems like it was shadily made by literal slaves or something.

What hassle? You order it, and it comes in the mail. Like most of the knives I buy. Buying something at the brick and mortar is actually a bigger hassle these days.

If you must have something that says "Buck", even though it's from China, well...

thanks alot for your posting... i always wonder if my sanrenmu 723 similar to the nobleman... they seem to spec the blade diffrently... the buck say 440A and the sanrenmu 8cr13mov...

i have several sanrenmu folder, i always EDC them and really like it... i re profile the blade to convex edge and they can be very2 sharp...

i dont have any fancy knives, just some saks and some sanrenmu... i use saks mostly, i just kept the sanremu in my pocket in the situation i need to open a blade with a single hand...

Why would you think this exactly? SanRenMu is a known OEM for Fenix, Snap-On and CRKT among others. CRKT also has a lifetime warranty on their knives (though I don't think they produce through SRM any more).

Would it be so much of a stretch if they OEM'ed for Buck and say, Kershaw as well?

The China price has to be that low to cover shipping, overhead, and profit for the importing USA company. The exact same knife with American brand sold by an American company will cost you $30.

Or $16.99 on sale. ;) Don't forget, the retailer also has a profit margin with which to be concerned. The same knife can very easily be double or triple the price.

I would say they make the Nobleman looking at the pic and description.I think Buck has always had the best quality China made/American co. knives.Even more so in the traditional style.I went through the elcheapo knife phase also and have a bunch of Bucks and rough riders. Both are very good quality for the price.

Looking at the pics...I might actually prefer the Sanrenmu over the Nobleman, which I do own and like to keep around as cheap, small blade. I don't like the feeling of the clip on it though, and I see the Sanrenmu is probably the same.
