Hey guys this is my very first post on this site. My name is Benny from Ft. Worth Texas. Me and my wife are about to have our first baby boy and I think I wanted to get him a knife I could pass down to him when he gets older. I'm down for suggestions or opinions on this knife. Im leaning towards the Buck for my EDC this is my first knife. I like the old school vintage feel something that will last a long time.

Hi Benny and welcome. You will get a wealth of information from members on this sight. There will be many suggestions, we like knives that are $10 - $1000 and you will get suggestions everywhere in between. So to help you better it would be good to know a couple of things.

1- Budget
2- Useage (light to heavy EDC, camping, bushcrafting, collector knife)

The buck is a great knife. Classic, simple and useful. The custom shop at buck could help you get something truly special, customized for your taste.

Without knowing your budget, I would suggest a Chris Reeve Sebenza. it is an expensive knife and is considered by many to be the ultimate in quality. I believe that it is the knife for which our generation will be known for. The down side is that it is expensive, around $400. I have a couple and am confident that they will be something that my grandkids will enjoy, even after I have used the snot out of it.

Good luck

Hey Joe I would like to say in the 100.00 range I looked at some Spyderco and Benchmade but I just like the vintage feel and look of the buck.

Have a quick look at the 'traditional' section of this forum, there are TONS of variations of old school slipjoints and lockbacks, and the folks there would be happy to help you find the right knife.
Personally, I would go with a Great Eastern Cutlery knife, if you don't mind a carbon steel that will rust and patina! (Personally, I see the patina as added character but you know, different folks, different strokes...)

Benny,
Welcome ,
I think a Buck knife is a great choice.
There are many good choices at prices
that won't break the bank. And if it makes
a difference to you ,80% of their knives are
made in the U.S.A.
If you would like to toss it around with pro Buck folks
try the Buck forum on this site.

I think the Buck Knight is an excellent choice. My recommendation is don't second guess yourself. Go ahead and get it.

whatever knife you decide on will mean the world to him. i wish i still had my fathers buck 110. i recall him letting me spit on the wet stone when he was sharpening it, which was the only time i could spit without getting a "backhander".

Can't go wrong with a buck. Excellent warranty and not to heavy on the wallet. Check out the Buck 55. I think it's about the same size as the 505 but looks just like the old school 110 folding hunter.

You mentioned that you would edc it before handing down, which is awesome! Buck is a great heirloom tradition, but the 505 knight is a tiny little thing, just shy of 2".

The 110 can be a little big for some folks at 3.75" blade.

Ultimately your choice, but I would suggest upgrading to the the 501 (2.75") or the 112 (3") for a better edc size for you, a grown man... Go through the Buck custom shop and maybe upgrade to s30v Steel and go with a walnut handle, still remaining under $100, (maybe even have it engraved?), and use it, edc it, let him see you use it, and buy him his own appropriate little beater knife(s) along the way as he learns to use and handle and maintain/sharpen knives properly
(knivesshipfree does a great kids 1st knife program with a small Buck Bantam)...

Then when the time is right, and he's ready for a "nice" knife, a young man, you'll be handing him a (young) "man" sized knife with a great blade steel, and not a key chain sized knife with an entry level 420hc blade...

Just a thought... Knowing what I know about knives today, I would prefer a "better" blade Steel upgrade over a stag handle upgrade, but I Definitely like the general idea though...

You know i was thinking about my grandfathers knife awhile back I don't know how it came to my mind thats what prompted me to start looking and get one for my boy.
