I see these buck approach knives in different colors and was wondering if they are any good for an all around knife? I think I have heard now they are discontinued, also they are made overseas too, that part I do not care for.

But then some will say it still is a buck quality knife.

OK, it's been 13+ hours, and no one has replied... :(

Here's what I think has/is happening...

People (not necessarily you) post here with a question about a Buck knife...They don't post a pic, or a model number, or a link to a site that has a pic or model number...and the name may not be known to the "casual" members of this forum (that would include me)...

So the post goes unanswered until someone asks "What is it???"...

Now, forum members here will tell you that if you post a model, name, or pic, someone like me can direct you to a site where you can find that Buck knife...with pics, descriptions, etc...and more than a couple members here have bought those Buck knives...

But we can't help if we don't know what it is...

I'm no expert at anything...but I can point you to a site if you tell me what you have or want...

...Or sometimes not...

So...Do you have a pic??? Is there a model number for it??? Is there a site that has one that you could link???

Thankyouverymuch!...

Here is a picture of one. Well it will not post, they are on ebay, called the buck approach and the buck short approach. They were normally selling for 19.95 /14.95 on sale at cabelas and yesterday I saw them going for 5.88 ! Now they are out as usual . Oh well.

Ah! There's one on eBay...Very good...Hold on a second; I'll take 5 minutes of my life that I'll never get back to look up an auction and post a pic...

Seems to be a Buck Model 751...This one is purple; there's a couple greens as well...

Never heard of them. :(

Not made in good ole USA, but not bad. I carry one as a backup. It is thin and lightweight and I like the carabiner loop.

...Is that the one they call the "Revolution" ??...Doesn't it spin on a pin to reveal a bottle opener or sumthin' ??...

No. the Revolution is American made. The Approach is made in Taiwain. Its a liner lock. The Buck rep gave me one when I sold them. I like it.

I have one, it is called a Buck Whittaker Approach, model #751. It is made in Taiwan with 420HC steel. The walk and talk is what I would call clunky. I have a knife like it, a 175 and it has a much smoother action. I bought it, mainly becuase of price, I think under $12, probably not a good reason to buy a knife. I would say this is my least favorite Buck knife. I have a blue one and the color is vibrant, that is about all I can say about it.

...I'm really not familiar with either...I seem to have just seen something about that knife that rotates but the memory seems to be fadin' with age...:p

I think the Revolution is the best backpacking knife I have ever seen. Its the design. It pivots into its handle and the handle becomes the sheath. So you are dealing with a fixed blade knife. Very strong.

I remember when Buck had that sale with the Buck Strider police knife last year or so. They also had the revolution for about 20 bucks. I did get the $40 police knife and a few other choice knives, but not the revolution, my experience with the approach clouded my judgement. In any case, both the revolution and approach are no longer made. I have seen the revolution, it was a clever design. The handle spun around to open and it was much nicer the the approach.

It was. and more expensive.:grumpy:

Hey, I bought an orange one - and it matches my wife's '05 SRT-4 in it's 'Orange Blast' pretty well. Okay, I had to get over $150 on my last Cabela's order to use my $20 off coupon, which it did - by pennies! My wife was so impressed, it was still where I left it the day after it's arrival here - and the plastic bag in the box was unopened. I remedied that yesterday - it's partially serrated - and that big metal 'clip' doesn't open - kinda lame. I went to put it in her center console, where I also found the SAK-ripoff and 'generic emergency device with windshield breaker', I had previously gotten her.

I don't need it - but it did get my order to a point where I could use a coupon, ultimately saving me ~$12.
