I have always loved the Canoe pattern and it has always been my favorite folding slipjoint pocket knife. I know Case makes alot of them and they are Made In USA. I have also always been a fan of BUCK Knives as well, back in the early days before I knew how to spell Sebenza or Hinderer, BUCK knives were a premium for me. $40 for a Buck 110 was a fortune, now its more like $400 anymore...........

My question is does Buck make a Canoe in the USA anymore ???

What is the quality like on the China ones ???

How about the Yellowhorse Canoes...Are they China Ones also ???

I just have a hard time buying crap made over seas, especially when a well known American Company begins making them over seas to save a Buck ( no pun intended )

What are your guys thoughts on this ???

Buck's Canoe patterns have all been imports (very good ones BTW) except for a limited edition Canoe style one fro A.G. Russell.

I'm not sure about the Yellowhorse ones, can't really tell from the pictures if they start out as an imported canoe and get dressed up, or made from scratch???

The imported Buck Canoes are absolutely awesome.
Mine has perfect fit and finish.
Great 420HC steel.
No lazy walk or talk. Most, if not all of the domestic Buck slippies I have had suffered from this. Not the imports. Very good walk and talk.
Sleek and slim, but built like a tank. A good working knife.
I say go for it. It can be had for under $20. If you don't like it, you're not really out much, you know?

I picked up several on sale for $7.95 each at a chain hardware store a few weeks or so ago and found that they are really very well made knives. That pattern isn't one that I really admire myself, but the knife itself is hard to fault. If it wasn't marked as made in China, I doubt seriously if anyone would ever suspect it.

I find it an attractive knife as well, but have also been hesitant to pull the trigger on one due to it not being made here. If they're as good as suggested, I should probably do myself a favor and buy one.

The only USA made Canoe are special orders. This is a total guess, but I am thinking they take China liners, springs and bolsters and put in premium scales and blades in Idaho. Sort of a custom shop canoe. Right now the only ones are as BCCL said, special made for AG Russell. Go to AG website and search for Canoes, you won't find them in current web catalog without searching specifically. There are two shown and they command quality prices.....I only have one Buck canoe, one of the hundred or so prototypes whose Ivory cracked when the scale rivets were put in.(And sold at near cost from Buck store as seconds) I have seen a couple on sale at a bay.

I got my father-in-law a Buck Canoe which he likes . Later while sharpening it I was able to examine it and thought it was of good quality . DM

I gifted one of the Chineese ones to my BIL this year and he seems to like it pretty well. It is a well made knife.

Thanks for all the great replies. I am going to have to get one. I see them going for less than $20 including shipping. Thats hard beat for a good canoe knife now a days. Now to decide on which handle to get !!! So Many Colors !!!

I bought two off the 'Bay a couple of weeks ago. Both NIB for around $12 each including shipping. Fit and finish was superb for the price. As good my USA made Buck slip joints. The only issue was one of them had the bone scale fall off in the box. I don't know if it occurred during shipping or prior. For what the knife cost, it wasn't worth the money to ship it to buck for repair, so I fixed it with a little super glue (The scales were just glued, not pinned).

Thanks, you make a good point. I looked at many of the colors. I see the wood scales are pinned. I will proabably go with them, even though they are a few $$ more, it will be more durable. Just dropping in the house could make the scale come off like yours.

They are very nice, seem to hold an edge just as well as my domestic 420HC Bucks. I have a blue bone one that I really like

I was able to get one off the bay for a good price. It has the wood rivited handle, so I dont have to worry about it coming off like what was mentioned in a previous post. All the posts have been pretty positive, so it should be pretty nice. I dont like that they are making Buck Knives in China ( I am sure the founder is rolling over in his grave ). But I doubt Buck would put their name on inferior knives. At least we all can hope not !!. I will post my finding in this thread when it arrives.

The AG Russells are 100% USA parts and labor, but thanks for playing :p

That's what we all do, we kick it around till you get here an blow the whistle and call half time.....300

I just got one in the mail today. It's the stag model and the stag is as nice as any I have on any knife. It's not my favorite pattern, but it is a cool little knife for sure.

I got my Wood Rivited Buck Canoe today. That was fast. Easily the nicest knife I have ever gotten for under $10 bucks. Fit and finish is perfect. Edge grinds are perfect, Everything is Perfect on it, I could not find a flaw if I tried too. I will post some pics over the weekend. For anyone looking at these, I Highly Recommend the Buck Canoe with wood handle. Its That Nice !! This is coming from a guy who regularly carries CRK and Hinderer.

It really is a nice knife. My Buck wood handled Canoe is one of my favorite knives. It has heft to it, giving you confidence in it being a solid, hard worker, but is slim enough to ride comfortably in any pocket, jeans, dress pants, etc. It has the 420HC steel, which is awesome. Holds an edge better then my Case CV blades (yes, I tested this, repeatedly, with various materials). Plus, it has that classic look to it. It could cost three times as much and STILL be a good knife. I love my Buck Canoe.

Here's one I just got a couple of days ago. The stag is supposed to be "India stag", but what ever it is, it is nice and well matched IMO. In fact, it's better than a few of mine from the CS and LE's.
