Hi, I am just trying to find the value of this knife.

1986 Custom 901 D-Guard Bowie made by the Buck Knife Company of El Cajon, Ca. The blade is mirror polished 425-m steel; rockwell 58/60; stamped "Buck Custom USA" on the side of the ricasso; The handle is fitted with a brass guard and the handle material is Mother of Pearl. This is the information Buck Knives sent me regarding this knife. It is in excellent condition. The numbers I have are 3158-901-d-0090

Thanks

Wow,

That is truly a fantastic custom shop knife. It's a model we don't get to see here very often, and it's a knife any of us would love to add to our collections. Alas, as we don't see those type of custom knives very often here. I do think you will not get an accurate value from the normal crowd here.

Send an email to one of the buck forum folks here. "Buckcustom" he is an officer of the Buck Collectors Club and he is the expert on the custom shop 900 series type knives.

Thanks for posting your very nice CS knife.

Hi Dougshog,

You may already know this info; if so some other folks maybe interested. The Buck Custom shop was in operation 1980/81 to about 1990/93 or so. The first custom catalog was out in 81/82 and the last was out in 1990 (info is from what I can see in the BCCI web site). The price sheet first shows the 901, with pearl to cost $368 and as the years went by and cost went up the cost of the pearl was available upon request....so I have no idea what that option cost at the end of the CS. The cost of the Walnut display box was another $44. Also I have no idea what the current value of a pearl 901 is today.

In the June 2006 BCCI News Letter contains information on the amount of Custom shop knives made and the amount made per model. It shows that "118" D-Guard 901 Bowies were made. I wish I had a time machine......I'd take a stack of cash and go visit the CS;).

There should be a set of initials ["Maker's Mark] on the lower edge of the blade, between the sharpened edge and the guard. What are they?

Not all custom knives are marked... My sailing knife isn't... Leroy said he thought mark it... I have other that are not marked too... ITE ...

What a beatiful knife! I can't help you on its value but I do appreicate the pictures.

Do you care to share the story behind how you got this knife?
