Hi guys
What can you tell me about the older buck Bowie frontiersman mod124? Are they durable strong knives.
What about the newer ones...thanks

the 124 is oneof the strongest knives buck has ever made
i have only seen one that was broke and cant figure out how they did it
old and new are good knives to use
i have a few of them includeing the extreamly limited to only 22 one from post falls 20th event

Is the handle thickness the same on the older ones? I found the new handle to be too fat for my hand.

That new handle is a monster. I think some have said it's even bigger than the early ones.

Some newer ones have been made with the hidden tang phenolic handle and they are indeed smaller in the handle.

That was a few years ago.

:)

Just for comparison of the handle size.

I have several pre 1973 124's and would say they are equal if not superior to several Randall knives I have from the same period.

The bottom 124 is from 1973. The top 124 is a later custom shop model.

The 124, I would not buy one, I buy everyone I can... I like the ones with big handles best...
The 124 is one of the best fixed blade knife that Buck has ever made...

Thank you Buck for making them again...:thumbup::thumbup:

I have to agree. I got one of the ones made this year and liked it so much I ordered another one. I also think it is the finest Buck fixed blade I have ever seen.

I just saw one with a Red wood handle and the blade is marked 124 v... Any idea when this was made.

DD,

At the top of the Buck forum you will see a sticky thread for date codes. So you can look at it and then tell us what year it was made. Yes, this is now a test for you! lets see how long it takes you to get it right, it's 6:10 pm PST....Go.

1988. Thanks.

Speed wise 50 minutes....not bad. However, you said the date code was a V not this ^, ^ = 1988. Try again, if you get the Date correct for the V date code I'll post some more 124 eye candy;)

Upside down V.

Ok, cool DD! Now you know how to date Buck knives made after 1986. "Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day, teach a man to fish and he will eat for a life time"!

Here are a few more 124's for you to find;)

Some came with a lanyard hole. What years were those made?

From 1967 into 1973 according to Joe Houser's article in the BCCI newsletter from December 2006. The lanyard holes were discontinued that same model year.
