Buck Kalinga value

I have recently aquired through a trade a Buck Kalinga Knife. The knife and sheath are in excellent condition. The original display box is beat pretty good but still serviceable. It has rosewood not micarta handles. Is marked Buck/Kalinga/USA on the blade. I believe it to be at minimum 15 years old, maybe more. I have almost zero interest in collectible knives so my knowledge base is sorely limited in this area. Does anyone know an approximate value for this knife. I tried checking some auction sites but could not find one with rosewood handles.

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum! You can expect to get anywhere from $100-$200 (sorry for the wide range) for it. If you ebay it, it'll depend on who's looking and what your pictures look like. Mint, unused, in case w/paperwork fetch from $200-$250. Good luck to you.

They are a pretty good knife. I gave one to my brother just like the one you acquired and he says it is his favorite deer field dressing knife. I think they were 420HC steel though. I have seen the Kalinga knife in Stag handle scales or Elk Antler and I think Mother of Pearl scales NIB with all the original paper work and a like new display box sell for $200 or more. I am not sure that the MOP version was a Buck production. That may have been added later by someone. Some of the aftermarket conversions I've seen were over $1000. Whether or not they sold for that is unknown but they were listed for that much.

The wooden handle versions are not as collectible and do not seem to bring as much as the other handle materials. Yours is probaby worth about $125 plus or minus since the display box is not in mint condition. I've seen that knife and the smaller version of it, the Akonua knife http://www.trocadero.com/andrewjake/items/442057/en1.html sell at the A.G. Russell store front in Arkansas for $150 to $180. Both were mint like new condition with like new condition boxes though.

There is an auction going on over at ebay right now for a good condition display box only for the Buck Kalinga. If yours is really bad you might be able to snag this one for yours that is in better shape and up the value of what you have. Just a thought.
