Since most of the Midwest is experiencing a polar vortex today, let's see your favorite Buck knife and firestarter - two essentials for outdoor survival.

My trusted Pathfinder with a firesteel and hacksaw blade striker...

(Lighter uses Zippo lighter fluid.)

Cool pics. I wish I would of seen those Thorns when they were out. I didn't see them until recently and I really took a liking to them and now people want crazy money for them lol.

Yes, Came with the knife. Not sure if they all do. Ive only bought the one,

Is the Thorn's spine sharp enough to strike the firesteel or do you use the can opener?

It might be sharp enough to strike it. I would try but this knife came in and my wife pulled a ninja and put it in her collection. She would kick my AZZ if I tried it. lol

Thanks! That's a well thought out tool. Description says it's a bottle opener, but it looks like it would work on cans too.

Yeah it definitely is. In the reviews a guy also says the end of the rod is a whistle. You used to be able to buy the kit like Mak has with the Thorn. That's the perfect little set up.

You could always attach a "John Wayne" or a P38 to it. That'll solve the can opener problem...

I got a 632 Mesa and added a kydex fire rod holder with a exotac fire rod works great the knife has a good 90 on the spine throws a good spark

That definitely is a nice setup. I always like those knives they were a good deal.

The sharpening choil is shaped to fit the fire starter. Throws some nice sparks!
