Buck knife used by Manson family?

The other night I watched "Manson" on the History Channel (about the Charles Manson family murders in 1969), then I purchased the book "Helter Skelter" which is an account of the Manson family written by the lead prosecutor in the case, Vincent Bugliosi. In this book is a photo of one of the knives used in the Tate murders, and the caption states it is a Buck knife, but gives no further details. Does anyone know what model of Buck knife was used? To me, based on the photo, it looks like a Buck 110. I'm not trying to be morbid or perverse. I'm just curious.

It would not surprise me if it was. The BUCK 110 has been around forever it seems and is a true icon in the knife industry. It is so popular that the term " Buck Knife " is often a generic term, that tells you how popular it has become. I would love to see numbers of how many were made in its existance ( just the plain ones ) and then compare it to other makers. I still prefer the old 70's square bolsters to the new ones, but they made a bunch of em and they are affordable. So if a nut like Manson had one, its no surprise.

I don't have any idea. Post a copy of the photo.

The prosecutor may have been using the term "buck knife" in a generic sort of way, not necessarily as a brand name.

All I could find from the court transcripts: "A strange knife, a Buck brand clasp-type pocketknife that the housekeeper could not identify was found very close to Sharon Tate's body."

there is a person that is showing a pict of a 119
saying that he believed a 119 was used
most knives listed as kitchen knives

The "kitchen knives" were used in another slaying; all the indidividuals in the Sharon Tate slayings were apparently stabbled with the same knife.

Crazy, I don't know why manson murders has kind of been interesting to me, I too have Helter Skelter and I havn't gotten a chance to watch Manson but I have it recorded and hope to watch it soon. Would be weird if a Buck knife was used though

i think joe has a buck knife that was used in a murder in his office
he wandered what to do with it once
OMG i wander?

About July 28, 2008 we were told by Chuck Buck that they just made the one millionth 110.So, add a few thousand more to that figure by now.DM

I'm pretty sure they used 110's or imitations. That was the biker knife of the time. They complained that the knives were too small very effective. They complained that they hurt their hands hitting the bodies. That also sounds like short knives. The huge number of stab wounds was a sign off the difficulty of the task as much as overkill.

Just to clarify, No one was mudered in my office....:o

The last time I counted, and this was in the late 1990's, we had made over 11million 110's! Thats a bunch.

To the topic...I dont know if they actually did use a Buck knife, as Larry mentioned, that term gets used generically a lot.

I thought the Manson Family's murder weapons were thrown out a car window and were never recovered?

I know its not the best picture but it shows the knife, the caption says

"Other clues included: a pair of eyeglasses; three peices of broken gun grip; and this Buck knife found sticking up from the cusion of a chair in the living room."

I think it is probably a Buck brand knife because as someone mentioned "The prosecutor may have been using the term "buck knife" in a generic sort of way, not necessarily as a brand name. " The only reason I don't believe his statement is correct if he was just using it in a generic way then would he have capatalized the B in Buck? I don't know. Thought you guys might like to see the picture though.

Kind of like here in Atlanta, we use the term "Coke" for about any kind of soft drink.

I also see when we have a stabbing in the newscast, what knife do they show, it is always the Buck 119. To me, they are just using that picture as a more generic way, I doubt everyone in Atlanta gets stabbed with a 119.

Thanks Zach2556 for posting the photo. That is the same photo I was referring to.

I looked through the book quickly and this is the only picture I found with a picture of a knife in it, it looks like a buck 110-112 but who knows, it could be an offbrand knife.
