I saw something in the Vanguard thread that made me wonder about a question. Can you wash Buck's laminated wood in the dishwasher without damaging it? If so, can you do it on a regular basis?

i don't think so. on our rosewood handle kitchen knife set it states do not use dishwasher (and think it stated due to damaging handles). on the paperstone set it states it's dishwasher safe. only difference i can think of is the handle.

luckily my wife doesn't put any of our kitchen knives in the dishwasher. unluckily i get to wash all the knives by hand (and also put the other stuff in the dishwasher!)

There are a lot of harsh chemicals in most dishwasher detergents (including chlorine in many). I would not recommend this at all.

Dishwashing detergent is pretty corrosive, more so when you consider the hot temperature of the water in there. Many makers of 'better' knives recommend (strongly) to NOT wash them in the dishwasher. This applies as much (or more) to the blades as to whatever handles are on them. The detergent's corrosive nature will dull a fine edge on a knife.
