Hi, I've just purchased a buck nighthawk. It Was sleeping inside a drawer in an armoury, It seems old.
I've been researching in the web. In the blade says 655n, it's black oxide coated, partially serrated, and the handle is as usual, BUT what I've seen on the web, for this model, is an olive and black handle, not ALL BLACK.
I've red that There were like a 97/98 run, and a 2008 run, and after that came the tops collaboration with the holes.
Mine is no holes, so easy, is no tops collaboration. But I can't place It in time: circa 2008, or prior?

Last hint: sheath is nylon, with the letters BUCK escalonated diagonally donwards, and in Yellow.

Can the oracles of the forum pretty please Tell me wich year It may be, and wich type of steel? Just for fun, I'm hoping 425.

Other questions
It Was rather dull. The mere passing of time on an unused knife can dull it?
Another One:It Was rather hard to sharpen. The Angle seemed to wide. is It so? What Angle do yo reccomend to sharpen It?

And finally: why the Gerber LMF 2 is more expensive if they are basically the same knife, regarding at least steel and handle material?

Thank you all.

If your knife is marked with an upside down U next to the model number as you seem to indicate (655n), that would make it a 1997 model which used 420HC. They changed from the solid black handle to the two tone green and black in 2001.

Aguijonmagico, The Nighhawk knives are a bit hard to sharpen because of the blade thickness. I sharpen mine at 25 degrees. I think the knife wasn't very sharp from the start if it was dull when you got it. thought I would post a picture of my Nighthawks. I have two blade handle ones and two green/black ones.

thanks. Mine is the first one, but black blade, not striped like yours.
Love the second one, that would be an old 650, right?

Also nice the tanto one, red it is harder to get by. For that type of blade, nowadays I would get de H&K conspiracy fixed, 9crwhatever steel, being studying it for a while. There few reviews on it, more on the folder, generally bad ones. On the fixed, only two I believe, but good ones both.
Not red or saw anyone on the nighthawk tanto.

Beautiful picture!

Top one is a 650, second is a 651, third is a 653 and bottom is a 655. The 653 (tanto) should also have a black blade but the coating has been removed.

ok, mine is 655 with the inverted u, so it has the handle of the 650 and the blade of the 655. Thanks again.
