I picked up a Buck Omni Hunter a couple days ago. I have heard nothing but good about Buck knives and being made in the USA is always a plus. I picked it up for field dressing deer this year and as a general purpose hunting knife. Anyone have any experience with this knife? Any feed back is appreciated.

First, welcome to the forums, KansanShooter! The Omni Hunter has shown itself to be a well designed field knife. The blade is 420HC steel, which has proven itself through the years to be quite tough and functional. The steel is not as hard as many others, but that is not necessarily a bad thing as you can 'field sharpen' the blade quite readily. Buck has a knack for producing great hunting knives and if you post your question in the Buck Knives forum, you will get a more informed answer than I can give.

I never used one before , but it looks like it would make a great hunting knife.

Buck has been making great hunting knives for many years now, I'm sure it will perform well.

I have the fixed blade and the folder, and I really the fixed blade for field dressing, I find the handle really comfortable and I find that I can control the blade very easily. A buddy of mine has one and really loves his, he never uses a different knife for hunting.

If I was looking for a new hunting knife and didn't want to break the bank, Buck would always be my first choice. I also Have both the fixed and folding version, I love them both., However, It may not feel good in the hand for everyone. For me it does.

I would have rather had the orange camo version instead of the plain black one I purchased, but for $17 on clearance at wally world I wont complain.
Good knife, comfortable, and keeps a pretty good edge.

It's a nice knife and the drop point blade should serve your purposes well. Welcome to the forums!

I bought mine because I was pressed for time, and it was the only fixed blade of that size in the shop. I took it on a spontaneous six day minimalist trip to Myakka State Park, Florida, and was not too impressed. There was nothing wrong with it, and other than cutting a few strands of rope, I debarked a walking stick with it. I cut some spam and vegetables too. It was the wrong tool for the job, but to be fair, I can see it being very comfortable for dressing game. In other words, it is designed for a very specific purpose, so be sure you are aware what you wish to do with it before you buy.

If you use a higher angle convex finish on the edge, it should hold it for a good time.
