Looking into buying a Buck Vanguard with S30V steel for general hunting. Was wondering what type of tang the vanguard has and if any of you have any input about this knife. Thanks!

The Vanguard is a modern knife. I think you will get more and better answers in the Buck Forum.

Having said that, and as I move this to the Buck Forum, I will add that the Vanguard is designed to be a hunting knife, not as a knife to baton through wood. As such, the question of whether it has a full tang becomes a non-issue. Stick tangs were used for generations for hunting knives without failure.

I have friends who absolutely love the Vanguard design as a hunting knife.

That model has a hidden tang, rat tail tang or as Frank called it a stick tang.
I have seen this type design carefully malleted. However, don't pick this type if you have plans toward malleting. It works best as a slicer and general cutting knife. They are made with the up grade steel and handle material. DM

What he said.

However, Buck does have 2 full tang knives (really the same knife), the Endeavor and the Sentry, that may stand up to more abuse, it that is the intent of your question. They also have others, as well.

I don't know of anyone that has spent more time and money on testing knives than this guy. He has a few othr videos on Buck blades, using them in the field. The video below qill answer your question.

blade and tang are one full piece. So the S30v is on both the blade and the tang.

s30v is great for retaining an edge, but not as tough as one would like without making the blade too thick. I've seen many S30V blades with the tips broken off. The Vangard would make a great hunting knife if you like wide blades. I did not so I gave mine away to someone that did. I would not consider the Vangard as a tough dependable blade if that is why the OP is asking. It would be highly likely the blade would break off the tang or bend very badly. Also note the square edges. The bushcraft folks learned square transitions from blade to tang almost always lead to breakage at that point. So, as a pure hunting knife...Yes. Anything more...Nope.
