I usually carry two knives with me everywhere - one for utility and the other for defense. For defensive purposes I would much rather use my pistol but my Spyderco Native in S30V is there for extreme backup or when I occasionally need a sharp blade right away that I can open with one hand.
My utility type knife for the last few years has been a Victorinox Tinker. This has been a good tool but the knife requires frequent sharpening. A number of weeks ago I won on eBay a Bucklite 422 - which has the 112 blade. This has been my first experience with the 420 steel. I carried it for a time in my EDC bag. It wasn't long before the Bucklite was in my pocket and the Tinker was in the bag. I've been very impressed with this knife. It holds an edge well and is back in good form with a touch up on the Arkansas stone. The plastic handle seems reasonably tough and so light in my pocket I don't know it is there.
In the early 1980's I didn't carry a knife at all. A friend at work carried a 501 and I was impressed with it and how nice it carried in dress pants. I bought a 501 and carried that knife for about a decade until I got into SAK's.
