I am on a tight budget and fixed income and asked on another post about Ozark Trail and I have decided not to bother with them as after hearing from ya'll and looking myself. So now I went to my local Rural King and they have the 285 Buck Bantam and Nano Bantam combo pack on sale for around $18 after tax, these are made in USA and have the locking device I prefer. My Question from ya'll is since ya'll know more than me on this is, how good are these as a budget carry and even to collect knife? thanks

Both knives make a fantastic budget carry.

As far as collecting, they make fine additions to your collection as individual pieces to use and even pass along later on.

If you are collecting in hopes of gaining appreciable value over time, then you'll likely be disappointed.

You could spend a $20 bill and do far worse nowadays.

Are you looking for a particular color? If you don't mind black I have some id be happy to give you.
No boxes or papers, just knives. If you're interested PM me your name and address.

Bantams are a great budget knife. They are low cost but American made with Bucks 420hc Bos heat treat blade that’s easy to sharpen and keeps a decent edge for economy grade steel and the FRN handles are tough. I’ve bought some for my grandkids and they love them. I went that route in case they lose them it’s not a terrible loss but still a good using knife for beginners and the ordinary user.

Ya can’t beat a deal like that! It’s a good day for knife hunting . Lol

they will be perfect as a budget EDC and for passing on to your son - ive heard of some issues with some bucks over the years, but my experience has been good with buck

very nice offer Bigbobg

Can't complain about the Bantam too much, especially for them being US made at that price. They are lightly built but they aren't made of glass. Use it to cut and avoid using it as a pry bar and it will hold up for years. Edgeholding is about what you'd expect from Buck. I had a 284 that I pretty much used exclusively until I wore it out.

Personally I have not had great experience with the Bantam. The one I had had a lot of side to side blade play, and some up and down. This coupled with the pinned construction so I was unable to tighten it. But if it is a knife you really like there is no reason you shouldn't get it. Buck does have one of the best warranties out there. If I was to suggest another knife in the same price range, it would be the ka-bar Dozier. The Dozier has a piviot screw which I prefer, just because I like to be able to adjust my knives.

Definitely a good knife for the money. That's what I usually grab when I go fishing. Good knife and I wouldn't cry if it went in the drink. Plus, if you really like it, there are so many options you can get yourself a pretty cool, low cost collection....

I think they are great little knives. My kids have used and abused theirs alot and they just need a small touch up sharpening every once in a while.

I went with a Bucklite max max because I found the bantams ugly but functionally it's a very similar knife and I can say they're a fine budget knife.
You also can't beat the Buck 110lt for $20.
