Thought I'd share my Budgie washing machine disaster....needless to say my wife is pissed at me and never wants to hear the word "Budgie" again. I left the Budgie in my pocket and it literally fell apart in the wash. The small S35VN blade got caught in the plastic center spindle and it SHREDDED my washing machine (and clothes) beyond use and had to buy a new washing machine. Needed multiple parts to replace and the cost was just too high to justify a repair...

A little bummed that one wash and the Budgie was dismantled..

I suppose hot water could loosen locktite if it had it, but even still it is pretty surprising the whole screw backed out.

Sorry for your (washing machine) loss! Hope it was older at least

Sorry to hear that. That is a bad wreck!

This is one reason I like using blue locktite on the screws. It keeps the screws in place but you can remove them without heat as you would with red locktite. Even then the blade can still open on a detent type in the washing machine. I’ve run a few of my knives through the washer but they were slip joints that have back springs to keep the blades closed.

On a side note....When did washer and dryer sets get so expensive!
I was in a house sitting situation a couple of years ago. It was a new expensive home with very nice furnishings. The washer and dryer look to be something out of Star Wars...meaning, a lot of tech features that I'm sure don't come cheap. I have no idea what the price was but sure it was close to top of the line and expensive.

My 75 year father just bought one of those new fangled contraptions. $895.00 CAD. He wasn't too thrilled with it until I levelled it for him.

We are in the market for a new washer!! Ain’t looking forward to that mess. 😑
John ✌️
better than needing a whole new roof...talk about pricey nowadays....yikes....

sorry op thats a crap run there. I once left a boker subcom in my watch pocket of my jeans. just forgot about it. stayed in the pocket in the washer. dryer time it came out, but never opened but looked like it went through hell. surprised I never heard it banging around. anyways the titanium handle got scratched up and banged up, but still works fine to this day. good luck I guess or very strong detent which it has.

That's very unfortunate about the roof and the Boker. Hopefully the new roof will give you many trouble-free years ahead.
thanks Jeff. boker was many years ago. its still good, just with washer and dryer battle scars.

its florida. roofs dont last very long down here.
there's a constr boom going on down here. shortages of everything and major labor shortages. driving costs way up. plus this countries inflation problem. perfect storm of all bad. with hurricane season in swing cant wait it out. just life, like everyone deals with.

Sorry to hear about that happening. It it really is an expensive knife now.

I left my spitfire 722 in my jeans pocket recently. It went through the wash cycle, dryer cycle and was even hung up in the closet still in the pocket. I thought I'd lost it until I pulled those jeans out again. Not a scratch on it.
