First time working with water buffalo horn.
Do you sand and polish like wood?
Anything special I should know, sealing it or the like?

Thanks,
Wade

Sand with fine grit paper and Buff like wood. Plane wax to finish.
It really can have a glossy finish when done.
Good Luck!!!

Sand it to 400 grit, buff with 0000 steel wool, then polish with green compound on a 1725 RPM buffer. If you use a 3600 RPM, use a VERY light touch.

Wax the horn with paste wax or neutral shoe polish when you are finished polishing.

Some lessons I learned a few weeks ago working my first horn...Wear a face mask! That horn will make your whole shop smell like a cattle lot! Wet Sand to make sure you get all the divits out! and use a VERY SOFT sissal wheel to buff with.

Here's my horn handled knife

Main tip is Don't Get It Hot. Any overheating in grinding or buffing will scorch the horn, changing the color, and causing cracks and lines to form.
