Hi everyone. Ok so, I recently completed my bug out bag. I was needing a compact gun to keep with me when I "bug out". I picked up a Henry Survival Rifle today and got home only to realize, it doesnt fit at all haha. I dont know if I shouldnt worry about it or should I get a bigger bag. I would like to see everyones opinion.

Thanks.

How much are those Henry AR-7s?? Takedown 22s seem to be a good compromise for a survival kit that already has some major firepower, but just needs a little quiet rifle to hunt small game.

I got mine at a pawn shop for 159$. I think the wholesale price is around is 190$. You can probaly find them at gunshows and pawn stores. Maybr check a local gun store for one.

Well, it's a small rifle. I guess you need to look at what your bag is outfitted for, and think about how the situation would play out where you'd actually use it. Are you going to jump in a vehicle and take it to a secluded spot and then make a camp/drop point, is that particular bag made for bugging out quickly on foot, what level of supplies are you equipped with in it?

If it's a backpack you plan on bugging out on foot, you need to do some test runs now and see how that's going to go. Most people build a kit like that, only to find that it's way too heavy (usually if you can hump it a mile, you get more used to it, but the weight is a huge concern if you're going to carry it). Most people would initially bug out in a vehicle, which is where I would suggest having a larger container to throw in the back seat, and a smaller one that you could take from the point where you either run out of gas or hide the vehicle. In a lot of cases you're more likely to bug-in so to speak anyway.

I think you're the only person that can really answer your question. You just need to familiarize yourself with your needs, your objectives and your abilities, and examine your plan. You may be able to lash the rifle onto the outside of your bag, but if you plan on traveling on foot through areas that might expose you to other travelers, that could alert them, scare them, or cause them to rob you. You won't be able to untie your gun and assemble it (might as well be carrying a muzzle loader covered in cosmoline).

Good luck!

Thanks! That really helps alot! Ill have to do some test runs with everything to see itll play out. I think itll be fine if I just put it together before I bug out and carry it. I dont know yet. Ill probaly find some way to put a sling on it, that eay ot doesnt look threatning and It could be carried very easily.

If you are carrying stuff in a pack, you may be able to just strap on the AR-7. I'd probably want some sort of scabbard or a sleeve case that keeps it out of the weather and disguises what it is. I picked up the Henry Mare's Leg in 22LR thinking it might be fun and perhaps be useful as a "bug out". Hard to shoot the little guy accurately. It is still a work in progress for me as I think that I'll mount a low powered compact scope or red dot on mine.

If you have a sleeping bag, foam ground pad roll, or a stuff sack or similer gear affixed externally to your bob, that might be the best way to conceal the rifle.

I don't know if possible, but you could replace the stalk with a full size one. I'm sure Henry sells replacements for their full size lever .22. Not as compact, but I think it would look pretty freakin sweet though.

What bag ARE you using?
Where are you bugging out to?
What will the rifle do for you? You will starve to death hunting squirrels and crows FWIW.

What about a handgun? Do you CCW? do you have a 'truck gun'?

My suggestion is a 10/22 takedown with tech sights and a VCAS sling and two extra BX25 mags and a Glock 19 or a 642/442/ruger LCR if the Glock is 'too big'

Must be a very small (or very full) bag if you can't fit an AR7 in it.

Mine is full to the top! I got all the things I need to have in it. Especially because they bag I use as my bug out bag is a National Guard book backpack. I transformed it into the ultimate bob. I do have a National Guard duffle bag I plan on caring for my firearms, ammo, and my knives.

You should look at lightening the load a bit. My first bob was stuffed full. I took it camping and realised I had far too much in it (and precious little food/water). Pick one or two guns (primary and secondary) and one or two knives, perhaps a fixed and a folder.

If I am carrying a rifle with me I would much rather carry it in my hands, over one shoulder, or 3 point sling.

Test it out and you will streamline yourself. Good job on taking preparedness seriously.

He could do that but he shouldn't put the full size stock on until he needs to bug out. it would be illegal because it would be a short barrel rifle.

care to list what's in it for a critique?

I think you're confused

How much crap do you have stuffed in there anyway? Anything over about 25lbs and you are going to be exhausted pretty quick.

Did the OP disappear on his thread?

Maybe he already "bugged out". I always wonder what people mean exactly when they say "I'm going to bug out". A pack for work, hunting, camping, hiking whatever is alright, but not to carry everything and the kitchen sink like some describe. Maybe end up like Rick in TWD carrying a bag with shotguns, handguns, rifles, and 75lbs of ammo?

He's not, it just looks like he is. He was replying to a post from infk about replacing the stock on a mares leg that is sold as a pistol with a full size stock from a rifle.

That would make it an SBR, (short barreled rifle) illegal, without a tax stamp.

Yep, that is the truth of it with the "handgun" Henry Mare's Leg. No stock fashioning for me. It is fun the way it is. Got lots of toys.
