Bugout vs Deka Help

I sold some items and now I have a little cash in my pocket. Lately I have been carrying around a Benchmade 940 Osbourne and I would like a nice knife as a change of pace. I'm going back and forth between a Hogue Deka and a Benchmade Bugout. I would love to get the Hogue in Magnacut, but all I'm hearing is how flimsy and terrible feeling the scales are on YouTube reviews. I know that is an issue with the Bugout too, but is doesn't seem as bad. I know both have after market scales but damn after spending 150 plus on a knife I don't want run out and buy after market scales too at least not right away.

Does anybody have both knives and like one better over the other? How do the scales compare? Are the G-10 scales on the Deka stronger/less giving and better feeling than the polymer scales?

I'd pick whichever one you like.

Neither g10 or frn (grivory/polymer) are flimsy at all. They may feel that way but they're incredibly strong and will take far more abuse than anything you could ever do with a knife like that.

For me, it would be Deka every time.

For the same price Becnhmade offers grivory scales and s30v, and Hogue offers G10 and 20CV. So in terms of materials, you get more bang for the buck with Hogue.

I also like the Deka's ergos better, like the way Hogue finishes their edges more, and both brands are made in USA. So at least as far as I see it, you get better value with Hogue.

I prefer the feeling of G10 to that of grivory, but both will serve fine.

The Benchmade 940 Osborne is an excellent knife.

I have several Bugouts and an old Deka with 20CV steel. None of them are flimsy. All of them have excellent action. You get more for your money with the Deka. The MagnaCut version is tempting, but I find the handle to be too angular for comfort. I prefer the Bugout handle, but it might be too small if you have large hands (mine are medium small).

Here’s a 230$ hogue.
I would suggest going with the gmascus deka with 20cv.

The bugout feels cheap and rattles around when it’s not deployed.

I have the original blue bugout, it sold me, to be honest I was disappointed with my mini grip ,and got rid of it, I want the Hogue Deka with Magnacut ,as well, I held one at a dealer, probably would have bought , but didn't have the handle color that I wanted with the right steel .

I'll admit I bought a bugout and pinched the scales then returned it before leaving the parking lot thinking the same thing, "flimsy"
Interesting to see they just feel that way but aren't indeed, sometimes the appearance of feel is enough, still won't get one again but happy to admit in being wrong

I have both and kind of prefer the Bugout. I am not impressed with Hogues 20cv, i think the S30v bugout holds its edge as well. They both are floppy feeling. I sold my 20cv Deka for a magnacut version then put aftermarket scales on it. I sold my standard bugout for the S30v and CF version. Now i am happy.

Deka is definitely more bang for the buck but the Bugout still feels better in hand and as a cutter. Kind of the ultimate lightweight edc. Can’t go wrong but if I had to pick I would take Bugout by small margin

Wait, you're carrying a Benchmade 940 and want a "nice knife as a change of pace"??? I think most people would consider the 940 to be nicer than the Bugout.

Another you might not have seen but should consider is the Hogue RSK; it has a more conventional blade and handle shape and is available in a version slightly smaller and slightly larger than the Deka.

The standard deka is close to the 940 in character. I think the bugout is a good compliment to the 940. If you just want a drop point 940, go with a deka.

They’re very similar in size and I find both of them to be comfortable. A big plus for me is the hogue deka has OG scales.

I have both but find myself carrying the Bugout more often. Both are great knives, the Bugout offers a better platform for modifications
