It happens. I remember my Dad forgetting his rifle deer hunting and had to drive back home to retrieve it. Of course, that pretty much ruined the day. Forgetting stuff happens. Me, I would still probably have a SAK in my pocket even if I forgot a fixed blade. But it's still easy to imagine.... change pants, in hurry,.... forget knife.I hear you. Nor, could I imagine heading out on a hunt without a couple of knives and a sharpening tool. But, that is how the story was reported.
Having just about any knife with you in the woods whether you are hunting, woods wandering, or hiking is a plus. I don't think it matters much which knife it is as long as it's sharp and you're comfortable using it. We have our preferences however.
