geez, belt sander, file, D8XX, etc. etc., and I can barely shave hairs even with spyderco fine followed by 2.5 micron SiC on paper.

so, who else is as bored as I am?

i "made" some beater knives out of old butter knives once. i broke or lost them all. for $.15 and a minute at the bench grinder, its no big loss. i mostly used them for splitting kindling, pegs and wedges.

i have sharpened some unnecessary things in my time..

Gee, what was the RC hardness on that puppy??? 31??? :D:D:D

Why was there ever a need for a butter knife in the first place? Won;t a sharp knife cut butter? Plus it seems you would strop the blade while buttering your toast! (I'm heading to the kitchen with BM610 in-hand)

:D too funny

I got drunk one night 20 or 30 years ago and decided that was a good idea, I grabbed one at random from a kitchen drawer and sharpened it to a scalpel edge. Even used the honing stone on it. Then as the sun came up, I put it back in the drawer, put away my stones and went to sleep and forgot all about it. A few weeks later I decided to make a sandwich while watching the game on TV. Grabbed a knife at random and started to apply the butter to the bread.. You never saw so much blood. Never again. Keep the butter knife dull is my advice, or at least paint the handle or something so you can tell which one it is.

I sharpened a spoon up once so it could shave. It didn't hold much of an edge, but it made up for it in sheer uselessness.

So people didn't have knife fights during dinner a few hundred years ago

HH, when they say "like a hot knife through butter", they don't mean necessarily a butterknife :D.
