Buying Tritium in US?

I think you need special license to buy them because tritium falls under regulation by US Atomic Energy Commision the last I read.

I too wanted to try a project with some Tritium, but I was unable to find any vials or tubes (whatever they come in). Tere was a guy in the exchange that had some for sale in the custom makers area. You might be able to do a search within that section using Tritium as a search term.

I can't link to other forums, but check out candlepower forum marketplace. There's a guy named B@rt who sells the stuff.
You can find him under WTS Other personal type lights.

ok i just looked that up, buying it doesn't fall under the law

"The United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) requires any person to have a license to manufacture, process or produce products containing tritium."

I was buying the keychain light years ago, the seller was told not to ship to the US. I got a package with about 12 vials in it, I walked into my unlit garage and the package glowed! Wonder what the postal guys thought. I still have several on my keys and they still glow!

Before I moved to loweraffordablypricedflashlightforum, over at old system of measurement forum, people sold tritium vials in the market place.

From what I remember, it's a radiactive isotope of something like hydrogen. But that doesn't matter, it glows on it's own for years and years. It's not like those glowinthedark things that you need to shine uv light on to make them glow, it glows on it's own.

Just wikipedia'd it, Tritium has leaked from 48 of 65 nuclear sites in the US. In one case it was detected in groundwater at levels exceeding the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) drinking water standards by up to 375 times.[21]

So I guess they had glowing water? Wish I had a pool there...
