C-Face Motor Mount Conversion ???

Hey Guys,

Any of you know where I might round up a C face motor mount conversion bracket of some sort? I got a good deal on a 1.5 DC motor, but it has a C face mount (bolts directly on to the shaft end of the motor). This sucker's kind of heavy too (for me) coming in at 70 lbs so the bracket needs to be fairly hefty. I'll fabricate one if needed, but if they already exist (haven't found it yet though) then that'd save a good deal of time and effort.

Thanks, Phil

I just did a quick search at MSC and they apparently do not have them. I know that they are out there but can be pretty spendy. I will be fabricating one in the near future. Not to difficult if you have a lathe or rotary table. I am still trying to contact Margaret by the way. I will give her a call again this weekend if I don't hear from her before.

I welded one for up my motor on my KMG. I used angle iron for it. I can try and get a picture to ya once I get home. It was real easy to build. Here is a quick drawing.

I did the same thing Burton did except that I used 1/2" plate, Very heavy,
would I do it again ? As soon as I got my hands on the steel.

It's 1/2" Aluminum.

Thanks guys. I like the angle iron idea, if I can find some heavy enough stock. If you can post a photo or two that would be great. I do have a wide enough piece of 1/2" mild steel bar that I could do it out of, but it will be heavy! I don't have any machining equip. I was just thinking of shimming the bracket out with washers or something and not dealing with the flange.

This is the only one I found on the net so far, http://www.kwagmire.com/shop/lathe/Cface_motor_mount.html.

Thanks Chuck on that. I'm eager to know what you find out.

That's pretty slick there Rob. I'm trying to mount this for a belt grinder. I'll keep that in mind if I ever do something like that though.

Phil, Robs plate can be adapted to any type of application. You just need to attach it to your bracket. It is essentially what I will be doing and adding a 90' welded plate. Good luck.

Any industrial electric supply should be able to get you one. You will need to give them the frame size and other motor nameplate info. and the device you are coupling the motor to. They are usually used to mount a motor to a pump.

Also McMaster Carr or Grainger can get you any size, but you will need to set up an account with them. Depending on size they are not that expensive.

I checked out both web sites. These come close, http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/2DBP2, http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/items/2DBP3, but not quite. Plus they're pretty pricey. I couldn't quite figure out the McMaster Carr site.

I see what you mean Chuck about Rob's bracket. I might go that route, but then I guess I might just as well try and make a steel L bracket that I can mount directly to the C face.

Hey IG,

At prices like that I think I will make one. I had hoped I could find something for around $20. Hell that won't even buy you a bag of popcorn and a seat at a picture show anymore! What was I thinking?

I hope you're warming up out there.

All the best, Phil
