I'm just wondering what are the California Law's for Carrying around swords. As far as I can get it is legal so long as one doesn't "disturb the peace". I don't own a sword yet though I do own a few Broken wooden swords but I am thinking of purchasing one in the future more or less for self defense and to look intimidating to would be thugs.

Are you kidding me, dude?

Anyways...someone will call the police, and you'll be disturbing the peace. Honestly, there's no need for a sword, and carrying a sword for self defense or intimidation is stupid. Get a CCW permit or if you're set on carrying something...simply carry around a baseball bat or something. Last time I checked, screwdrivers are unrestricted too haha. Another thing that matters is area. For example, in LACO you can't carry fixed blades, unless it's religious or for activities such as fishing.

Don't feed the trolls. OK, just in case you're serious, its a stupid idea to carry a sword unless you are attending a ren faire. You'll get arrested, and you won't scare off any bad guys.

Best regards,

Argyll

Oh sure, you would look so scary to thugs with a sword. The thugs might die from laughing. Do you also have a time machine , so you can travel back to the middle ages, when your sword could be used against Highway men!!! I will nominate you for a Darwin Award.

Might I recommend you also take some sword play lessons, so you don't injure yourself or others

I'd like to see the look on your face when a guy pops a cap in you because you were brandishing your sword.:jerkit:

Technically it is legal to carry around a sword in public in CA, as long as it isn't concealed, but you would still get arrested for "disturbing the peace." I understand that you probabaly want to carry around a sword because its "cool," but it isn't a good idea. Not to mention you would look like a mall ninja nerd.:D I suggest wallking with a walking stick/ cane if you want an effective non-firearm weapon that is low key. (Hardly anyone will realize that you're carrying it as a weapon.) That's what I do. Sure you'll get some weird looks, but not near as many weird looks as you will get carrying a sword.:)

This sounds kind of like a Troll question?

I'm going to be blunt.....Are you trained with one?

it would not be "disturbing the peace".

per 415pc, disturbing the peace:

(1) any person who unlawfully fights in a public place or challenges another person in a public place to fight.

(2) any person who maliciously and willfully disturbs another person by loud and unreasonable noise.

(3) any person who uses offensive words in a public place which are inherently likely to provoke an immediate violent response.

while carrying a sword unconcealed may not violate california law, it almost certainly violates city/county laws.

I thought carrying a sword in public , as a defensive weapon ,violated the international Stupidity act . I would recommend in investing a set of spare marbles. You can always roll them underneath a thug, if you are not going to use them yourself:)))

I stand corrected.:D

To the OP: Even if carrying a sword violates no law (state, county, or city) and is not considered disturbing the peace, you will still almost certainly be hassled by the police about it. Possibly at the business end of a pistol, if the cop who sees you with it is overzealous. To most people, someone walking around town with a sword in their belt says "unbalanced wacko."

I will not even go into how bad of an idea it is to carry a sword, double so for SD purposes. What I will pass on is personal exp with carrying a sword.

I was a fencer for many years starting when I was 12. Several days a week I had to travel from home to my clubs training center. From the age of 12 til 16 it is clear that I could not drive. I rode my bike. My "swords" (I normally had an average of 5) were not displayed, but were carried in a equipment bag along with several vests, masks and gloves in a bag made for the purpose.

At least twice a month I was stopped by police and made to empty all my gear out on the sidewalk. There was nothing illegal about my behavior. That however, did not stop me from being regularly stopped.

If you do this, you will be stopped and you will be arrested. Period.

yup.

in los angeles it is legal to carry an unloaded firearm openly. my coworker observed such an individual dressed in cowboy garb with a rig and revolver openly worn.

turns out he was going to an audition, but it did not stop him from getting proned out at gunpoint. while not illegal, it is certainly pc for a stop and investigation.

he was advised it would be better carried in a duffle until he was indoors and actually participating in the audition.

Wow what a thread I got going lol. Marbles I don't think so. Well if I am hassled by the police of course I will willingly obey and explain myself. I have a friend who lives in Oregon who carries his swords nearly everywhere and hasn't been hassled plus there was a time at night when people thought he looked cool. As it stands I hate the way society is now so yes I may get weird looks and such especially for what I may wear in public but that doesn't stop me as my reputation was ruined ages ago. I would rather wear a sword than carry a gun anyways.
