Opinions please... I already have a couple of the Alaskan guide 110's already and just wondering if anyone has both,so I can get an in hand comparison from an owner or from one of the many people here that know the two knives well... I know 1 is a liner lock and the 110 is not... Thanks in advance...

Sorry 9er Eric,

I guess no one had one of those. I love the AG series knives and have many of them. But will not be getting a vantage model.

I'm interested in one of these myself. I'd love to hear some opinions on it if anyone gets one. I don't have any of the AG series yet. I should have grabbed the 110 when they were one sale a while back.

I have both, added the Vantage recently, I would not buy another. I like the looks, feel and blade shape of the AG Vantage. I have tried to make myself trust the liner lock, just can't, I'll use mine as a letter opener. Sorry Buck. Preston

That's a shame. I'd love for this to be a solid version of the vantage...

My wife has both, just not the Cabela's offering. She likes and carries both the 110 and Vantage model 340. She's not pointed out to me any issues with either during her cutting. DM

What don't you trust about the liner lock? Is it just the Vantage locking mechanism or liner locks in general?

Thanks

Redhat, it's liner locks in general. I'm a Buck 'fanboy' of the lock backs and fixed blades they make. For years I carried a 501-503 in my pocket when I couldn't have the 110/500 on my belt, when hunting it's the 118/103 combo. When pocket clips hit the scene I waited for Buck to have one on a lock back, they didn't and I discovered the Axis lock/Benchmade and that became my most EDC. Preston

I see...but I gotta ask...why buy the liner lock at all if you don't trust the mechanism? Now before I come across as being a wise guy, I too have liner-locks and traditional lock backs...and I trust them only to an extent. I wouldn't use either to do anything but cut in a normal fashion...no stabbing, digging or other stuff of that nature that IMO, they aren't designed for. FWIW, I have 2 of the Vantage line, 1 large in S30V, 1 large in 420 and a small one in 420 that I carry every day. Never a problem with them but then again, the way I use my my knives is fairly boring. My hunting knife is a Vanguard that I've had since the mid '90's.

Fair question...I got it for a good price, like S30V, the look and feel of it and thought the lock looked stouter than others I remember seeing. I know it's not like the Buck Strider or Buck Tops those are real beefy, don't like the look or feel of those, but wanted to give the Vantage a try. Preston
