Last weekend some friends and I went cabin camping. It's a rustic cabin that was built in 1936. Small wood stove with an extremely suspect cast iron skillet. Not as much knife work as I had hoped but really got to exercise my Laplander saw trying to stay warm on night one(we arrived after dark). Of course my 4.1 did a great job as a steak knife even if the hard to control wood stove butter bath led to a slightly over cooked slab of beef.

That must've been complete torture having to stay out in the middle of nowhere with all of the peacefulness.

That's a pretty sweet cabin. Is it privately owned or a cabin you can rent from the National Forest. I think we have some of those in CA, buy never actually stayed in one. Thanks for sharing the pics.

I'll take it!

Looks awesome man. I think it's funny that I live in such a rural area but it's really hard to find something as remote as that.

Doyle River Cabin looks like a little slice of heaven to me.

So awesome! Looks like a great time, redwood. Thanks for the pics.

What were sleeping arrangements like? Cots? Bare floor?

Maybe the steaks weren't perfect, but wow! Steak and veggies in a cast iron. Looks so good.

What did you get to do other than eat and sleep? Any good hiking?

Hahaha pure torture indeed.

Man that looks like a good time

We try to do a primitive cabin trip once a yr(not nearly enough) this was a new spot and it turned out great

They are owned by the PATC but they have more altruistic intent less business focused, they may even be a non profit. You rent it from them

I'll take it!

We actually had a hiker stumble up on us but this reaffirmed that my next goal in life is to save up to buy some average to "play" on. I live far too close to the city

Nice! Is that the one down from Skyline,, near that little stream?

Sure is! .45 mile walk from skyline!

Did a lot of wood processing. There was copious deadfall but it was dense and we only had my wimpy Laplander to do all the work. The cabin saws were garbage. We did a little hiking but not much. The cabin was basically a big room with 8 beds in 4 bunks.

Love it!! Beautiful place!!

Seriously agree, i love hill country. However, it was sad to see the effects on the trees in the area, can't remember exactly what it is but something is decimating trees in the Shenandoah

That's awesome redwood!
Its really nice to get away from civilisation (and other people) sometimes :D

That old stove is way cool. I'm jealous, we're still fighting snow and runoff here. Thanks for sharing!
