i've been trying to figure out what my SD carry knife choices are, and ran across a really good resource on california knife laws. i thought i'd pass it along, seeing as how california is so strict on weapons. for instance, canes, rods, leather saps and other not-so-obvious weapons are actually felonies that can get you a year in prison, while loaded guns are misdemeanors. interestingly, locking folders with holes and thumbstuds are specifically mentioned as legal, as are switchblades with blades under 2".

you can read the whole thing here: http://www.sudialab.com/calknife.htm

and a searchable archive of all california law:
http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/calaw.html

be sure to look up your municipal (city) laws, too; there may well be additional prohibitions.

Thanks for the the info. One thing I wish AKTI would do is have a database of knife laws in each state, city and district. Oh well, I shall join them soon enough and ask them to expand on your link or at least show knife nuts links to info like this. Thanks again.

meb,

Thanks very much for the references. When you say that canes are actually weapons that can get you prison time, I think there needs to be a qualifier. Unless there is something new that I haven't seen, in order for a cane to be illegal it must be a "sword cane" with a blade concealed inside. Is that how you read the statutes?

Thanks again for the very helpful links.
