California Law Re: Push Daggers

I would like to know what the law is regarding the sale and possession of "Push Daggers" (ie. Cold Steel Safekeepers I, II & III)in California?

Are there any specific laws pertaining to Push Daggers or do they fall under the laws regarding fixed blades, dirks and daggers?

Thanks.

Hey, Big Bear; in the Golden (Bear) State, push daggers are illegal. Unless the blade is circular in cross section, and helical in shape. Then it is called a corkscrew, and ALL kinds of corkscrews are legal here!!

Going to the wine country tomorrow; wish my liver luck! Walt

Not only are push daggers illegal here, they are a misdemeanor/alternate felony if carried concealed. This means that if they want, the DA can charge you with a felony or a misdemeanor for carrying these knives concealed. Supposedly this is to give DA's another way to add charges to REAL criminals. In reality, it means that if you piss somebody off, and you were carrying one concealed, you go to prison for up to three years. It sucks, but that just another reason it's the Fascist State Of California.

California has some weapons laws that date back to the gold rush days. Around the 1850's San Francisco was plagued by lethal "muggings". Favorite thug weapons were slung shots, clubs, and knives. The push dagger was a favorite concealed knife of the era. So California created laws against blackjacks, slung shots, daggers, dirks, and push daggers. The good people of San Francisco also developed their own advanced form of neighborhood watch called "The Committee of Vigilance", from which we get the term vigilantes.

Some correct me if I'm wrong, but carrying a concealed fixed blade is a felony, while I think carrying a concealed handgun is a misdemeanor!

Yup...Pushdaggers are illegal...True, too, that a conealable firearm carried concealed is a misdemeanor, carrying a loaded firearm, concealed or not is also a misdemeanor...Cal. law regarding weapons is really confusing, and I recommend the book: "peace officer's guide to dangerous weapons laws" by Rick Bruce, Lt. SFPD, Academy Instructor (and a good one at that!)
