I tried to search on this subject but the search seems to be broken..basically what i would like to know is if there are any laws on open (sheathed) carry of a sword?

The only State law (other than prohibiting sword canes and anything with a D or knuckle handguard) covering swords would say that you can't conceal it. Your city may have more restrictive laws.

I asked a cop once about it, and he agreed that there was no law against wearing a sword strapped to your belt, then he added, "but I'd find something [else] to write you up for."

There is also the chance that they may try to hook you up for something along the lines of disturbing the peace or disorderly conduct. Possibly even reckless endangerment. Also, there could be a municipal or county ordinance against carrying such an implement.

I just saw this teenager riding a bike with a katana on his back, in Simi Valley, CA and thought to myself, well if you don't have a car how else can you transport it,:p HA! I wonder if that kid does it all the time, not to mention Simi Valley's cop population is unreal, a lot of LA cops live there...

While there are many things you can do that aren't "illegal", most of them will get you some unwated attention from both the general public and law enforcement!!!

Do you know that you can walk around the streets of Calif. carrying an unloaded and unconcealed handgun??? You can also carry an unloaded and unconcealed handgun in your car. While these things are completely legal, it may not be a wise choice to practice them.....
