Anybody use a HAWG as a day pack? I know it was designed as a cycling pack (which I would also use it as), but I'm curious how it stacks up as a regular day pack.

I use a HAWG on my daily basis a a university student. As i do most of my learning, reading and other work at home I usualy don´t carry a lot of books/ files with me so that there is more room for more important stuff. The Hawg is just big enough for something to eat and drink, a lightweight jacket and sweater, my Filofax and a small first aid-kit. A nice organizer front pocket offers plenty of room for knives, pockettool, cellphone, minimaglite, pens and some other essentials. It is very well build from tough 1000Den Cordura and offers some features that might come in handy e.g.stowable waistbelt, velcro strap management, compression straps .
So far so good, but there are some points that I don´t like to much. Camelbaks and especialy the military issued ones seem to be build for quite big people, when I don´t put on the sternum strap it just seems to not fit realy comfortable.
As I suffer from SBS(sweaty back syndrom) in warm weather i need a well ventilated back but imo the Air Director system doesn´t work too well for me. An other thing I was wondering about is the zipper on the front pocket, i guess in this price category you could expect it to be covered to be fairly weatherproof.
Another drawback is the padded back which also works as an insulation for the reservoir. As it was build to store up to 6 ltr there is a big fold in it when empty, that is, you are not able to get it really plain so that it will use some of the rare space an sometimes makes it difficult to get stuff out of your pack.

had one as a daypack. really cool! sold it to a buddy who fell completely in love with the hydration pack! :D

Thanks to everyone *WHO ISN'T MY BROTHER IN LAW* who responded! ;-) I'm going to try one out.

So Leemah, if a guy only needs one pack, I guess you really only need one knife too, right?

:D

Hey Guys..

I've got the Solo 70oz,,and find it somewhat small both in fluid capacity and in storage..
I would for sure upgrade to the Hawg if I had the money...

I don't know abouyt you guys,,but I find them a Major pain in the ass to clean...

I've got a system now that works pretty good..
I made up a bore brush pull through to clean the hose..Simply a really long piece of string with a small hunk of J-cloth tied in the middle...
Feed the string through the hose after taking everything apart, put a little soap on the cloth and run it through the hose back and forth a few times...

The valve needs to be cleaned also..
You can find miniture bottle brushs or even those dental hygene bruses at the drug store..
They work nice to get the crud out of the nooks and crannys...

I forget to clean mine sometimes and get a little black mold in the hose, valve and edges of the bladder...A rince with some bleach water will stop that...

Great system,,would never go back to the platapus system,,after having a CB..

ttyle

eric...
