It is functional. He is chopping food with it, as seen in the photograph. I don’t think they would CGI that. May not have been Nick Cage doing the chopping though.Generally knives in movies are prop pieces so the actors don't ignorantly injure themselves.
Long on pig character, short on pig plot, I guess. Nick Cage has a genius for appearing in films that never should have been made.

96.99% of those people were inspired by his love for his Pig. I am the .01% inspired by his love for that knife. He found truffles with it and cooked with with it. The only thing he failed to do was stab those as***** who stole his pig with it. The movie could have ended right there.97% Tomatometer?! Wuuut??
