Can I render pine sap from bark?

I've got a pine log sitting in the back of the property from a tree pulled down last fall. I'm wanting to process it out for some good fire starting material. The bark and the pulpy wood just underneath seems to be quite sappy. Is there a reliable way to draw out the sap to make use of it? It's still getting sappy where I lay my ax into it, even after these several months.

Thanks

I'd say "injure" the bark and let it drain if you can.....but being it's already dead, it can't use it's circulatory system to push it out......

Or try this:

You'll find more resin to render off in pine knots from fallen trees than in the bark.
