So I have a PM2 that needs to be oiled and the closest thing I have is Planet Eclipse Gun oil. Can this be used? None of my local stores have knife oil and I can't order online.

Its the second image on google images the bottle with the long tube on top when you google planet eclipse oil. I have no idea how to post the picture it just posted the link before.

Yes you can use that oil. I wouldn't use the knife for food prep though.

It'll do in a pinch, be advised though that silicone lubricants work MUCH better on plastics and rubber than they do on metal to metal contact.

I made the mistake of trying some silicone lubricant (grease) on one of my knives' tight pivots, which was slow to close, and it actually seemed to 'coagulate' in the pivot, making a sticky, gummy mess of it. Might've been made worse if it mixed with any petro-based oil already in the pivot. Took forever to clean out, and I'm not even sure I got all of it; I'll never make that mistake again.

I use oil as a last resort. Most of the time it just needs a good breakin period. Clean with mild detergent and warm water, dry thoroughly as needed. If I do use a drop of oil in the pivot, I'll use blue lube, or something like this. I have used ballistol for a while with no problems. But I go around the pivot with the end of a piece of paper and a Qtip and dry up any excess oil. Oil attracks dirt, pocket lint and so on.

If I remember correctly I used silicone oil in my knives before and it wasn't the best thing to use and well it worked at first it had the opposite effect I wanted in the long run. I used to airsoft and that is what I had on hand at the time.

A cheap bottle of 3 in 1 will do the trick or pretty much any gun oil.

try Ballistol... great oil, hardware store may have it, and even safe for knives used on food (but wipe it off first).

I wouldn't use PE's lube. It's made for rubber o-rings, not for a knife pivot. Save yourself some trouble and order some quality stuff from one of bladeforums sponsors or one of the many online knife stores.
