Can someone explain these instructions

When looking at these instructions I just realized it looks like you’re supposed to use the diamond rods at the 30° angle and then switch to the 40° angle for the other stones but I’m trying to figure out if I am interpreting this correctly

also can I use the instructions for a Hawkville blade or do I need to use the edges instead of the flats of the sharpmaker stones

-cut the edge off by slicing into the medium stone as if you were trying to saw it in half, 2-3 passes
-this should leave the edge reflecting light
-sharpen on the diamond rods at 15, use light force and alternate sides
-stop when the edge is no longer reflecting light
-it should easy slice newsprint now
-switch to 20 dps
-use the flats of the medium rods
-do no more than five passes per side on the flats, very light
-it now will push cut newsprint and shave very easily
-use the flats of the fine rods
-do no more than five passes per side on the flats, exceptionally light
-it now will do silly things like catch hair above the skin

Not sure where these instructions are from but the first bit is to remove the existing edge, sometimes done if the metal at the edge is believed to be fatigued. The next step is to set the edge at a 30 degree inclusive angle. The following steps are adding a 40 degree microbevel and deburring the knife.

In my experience being prescriptive about the specific number of passes to use on a knife doesn’t necessarily yield good results

Hi,
Yes, you're interpreting it correctly,
its a microbevel

Hi,
Sure, why not?
Take one of your sharpmaker stones and hold it up to your karambit edge,
you'll see the flats will touch the whole edge same as the corners

paint the edge with a magic marker and take a few passes, you'll see the flats remove the marker

also compare it to a serrated knife, the serrations are much smaller circles than a karambit

My sharpmaker karmbit tip, start with the tip at the top ;)
yes, you could hit the table if you don't start put a few books underneath :D

also If you got the sharpmaker diamond or cbn triangles,
using the corners will dislodge the abrasive

Cutting off the edge (esp a LOT) to get a reflection is optional

Here you can see the Doctor demonstrate the technique
He also shows how you can get a 15 degree microbevel by wedging

Yup, thats why the first step, is always however many strokes it takes to reach apex

But it doesn't take many strokes to microbevel,
microbevels work like that when you're not raising giant burrs,

So a few questions regarding this whole post

1) will using cbn or diamond rods on the corners damage my knife or just the rods by dislodging the coating.

if it’s just going to damage the rods I might be OK with using them for that purpose and then replacing them eventually

because I tend to do better on the Karambit with corners.

2)should I be trying diamond stones if my knife still feels dull as a butter knife even after following these instructions with only the medium and fine stones ?

I dragged the knife across the stone to even the blade out first and then I started doing my multiple passes until I felt a burr and then I removed the burr and still so dull I can’t even slice skin

Is the reason that it’s now so dull because I dragged the knife horizontally across the brown stone and I didn’t have the diamond stone to re-profile it after
