Can you add a foot to a motor?

That is for a modular DC motor and will likely not fit your motor.

The answer to your question is yes, bases are just spot welded to the frame/case of the motor. The practical answer is I don't know where you'll find one. We didn't sell them separately AFAIK at Leeson. If I still worked there I would have been able to get one for you but I don't anymore.

You could fabricate one yourself and weld it to the motor frame.

A couple years ago I replaced a blower motor for my hvac.

I bought a generic replacement and it came with a foot that clamped around the motor, so it would work in any orientation.

I'm not sure where to find one but they do exist and probably wouldn't be hard to fab out of some thin sheet metal.

Yes, there are conversion motor base plate mountings. Places like MSC and Grainger carry a lot of types. The simplest are just a foot plate with a curved cradle for the motor. Two big band clamps hold the motor to it. I bought a couple many yeas ago from HF, IIRC. Some bolt to the C-face and have feet lugs. Others fit the front and rear bolts and have a full base plate.

Here are images of many types.

Nope, that is an adjustable mount that a NEMA 56 motor bolts to. It allows the motor to be slid forward and back to adjust belt tension. The motor that fits it already has a foot plate.

I could be wrong, but further down the page looks like mounts with clamps that fit a motor cylinder.

Hmm, when I clicked it yesterday, the item was an adjustable NEMA 58 mount. The ones with strap clamps that will fit the existing frame type, or the C-face type are what he needs.

I bought a motor similar to yours off a neighbor that had a c shaped piece of steel with two holes in it that matched the holes in the face of the motor. had a c shaped cradle part way back with a hose clamp. So basically bolted in the front and band clamped in the back to mount it.

Not sure what part of the globe you are located on, so I won't point to a specific source.

They make cast aluminum gas cylinder securing clamps which clamp around the cylinder and bolt to the wall, bench whatever. I have used large stainless band clamps to secure a motor to one of these mounts and then bolted it in place. So you mitght try looking at gas cylinder supply companies to see if they might have one that you could use.

Kuraki- wouldn't welding damage the wiring inside?

The portion of the frame where that base would be welded is insulated by the stator. It's likely .75" thick between the frame and where the windings are. When I say I would weld it on, I would weld it by plug welding the bolt holes meant for installing it on automation directs motor, and maybe 4 small welds at the 4 corners where the base and frame meet, to keep the heat down. I wouldn't put a 3/8" weld all the way around.

That bracket will not fit a 56 frame C-Face. The dimensions are wrong. Although it is the type/style that would be easiest to use for this application. I can't find one online anywhere. Making one wouldn't be hard. See Burton's post in the thread below:
