Can you recommend a pen, light, knife combo?

Three things that I always try to have on my person are (in order of importance) a knife, pen, and flashlight. I have long mused that if I had a good knife-pen-light combined into one, I would have a backup to all three.

Can anyone recommend such a product? I want something that is quality--both strong and light, and hopefully the knife would have decent quality blade steel. One hand opening, locking blade would be a huge plus. The battery and pen refill should be replaceable, of course, and not impossible to obtain.

I don't know why more custom makers don't offer something like this. If they did, everybody and their brother would buy.

The only thing I can think of is a Victorinox Traveller Lite, but it doesn't have a one handed opening blade.

Caly 3
Fenix LOD Q4
Bullet fisher space pen

All very very good at what they do. They all can be had for under a grand total of $150.

They will serve you VERY well.

Now if you have more money to spend I would go

Small Krein'ed Sebbie
Surefire E1B at night, and a Fenix LOD Q4 during the day
pen?? I have the new Benchmade pen and love it, but a normal Fisher Bullet would do just as well

All could be had for around $685 with the BM pen or about $605 with a Bullet.

Spyderco Delica 4 , Surefire E1L or L1 , Fisher Space Pen ( lotsa flavors ) , Retro also makes lots of pens and mechanical pencils . If ya want to go with a smaller /cheaper lite , but not compromise quality , look at an ARC AAA-P ( bout 40 bucks ) . No Chinese lite can touch it for build quality , I like the simplicity , an lack of bells and whistles .

Don't go there, trying to combine items. Just grab three good quality independant items and bunle them toghether in a pouch or tac-wallet.

I use several such combos. One of my favorites is a BM Mini-Grip, a Fenix L0DQ4 and a bullet Space Pen. Another often used set retains the Space Pen (quite unbeatable, regardless of price, will write in ALL occasions), a Spyderco Military and a Fenix P1DQ5 with Leef body or a Surefire C2 with Q5 drop-in.

You mention 3 items. I insist on always carrying a fourth: some type of tool, something to apply force with, and it ranges from an Atwood Prybaby, to an alox SAK or a full-featured Leatherman multitool. Choice of size and functions comes from what to expect in the circumstances, but the bare minimum is te Prybaby, which will be used anytime I need something stronger and/or thinner than a finger. And t will keep me from ruining my blade, and it is often good on the sheeple, and... blah, blah, blah...

Regarding the flashlight, if you're only carrying one, make sure it has good runtime or spares at hand. If you carry two, one can be a thrower for brightness and other can be a small task light optimised for runtime.

Another nifty set is coupling a Vic Soldier with an Arc-P, even the old-flavoured ones. Two items of time proven quality and reliability, can't go wrong with them.

Another thought: if you feel the need to always carry a pen (I know I do), always carry paper, too. A Moleskine or a Rite-in-the-rain pocketbook are the perfect companions to a space pen. A pencil is a nice-to-have too, considering you always have a knife to sharpen it with.

Jeez... might as well check out edcforums.com ad get the whole idea! Good luck!

Like the others who've posted I wouldn't recommend combining everything in one tool. What if you need to cut or write and the flashlight is built in and not pointed the right direction?

You can do all of this on the cheap too. I like the selection the others have suggested, but here's my basic setup:

Fenix LOD -- about $43

Victorinox Alox Cadet -- $15-20

Fisher Bullet Space Pen -- about $17

If you want to save more you can get a Fenix EO1 for $15. It's not going to blind your adversary, but it's a fine task light. On the pen, a Parker Jotter is about $8, and will take the Fisher refills which come with an adapter.

For a prying tool, go to http://www.countycomm.com/WIDGYMICRO.htm -- they have $5 mini prybars that work great. I used mine today.

I'm weird about pens. I like fountain pens, even though they aren't as versatile as a space pen. for an inexpensive one, a pelikan m200. they can be had for 60-70 bucks. or if you like cartridges, a lamy safari. that'll set you back about 20-30, depending on options, and the cartridges are cheap. I've been carrying an m215 with a custom ground nib, because hey.
fenix P2D. I like the rebel LED better than the Q5.
knives? sky's the limit. large sebenza today.

Maybe we should also ask, what will you need out of your EDC items?

Do you work in the dark a lot?

Do you need/want a tough prybar type of a knife....or do you need a knife here of there mostly for light use?

Do you like holes or studs?

How about budget?

Just a few questions that would help us...... help you.

I carry my Hinderer XM-18, a Gene Ingram Pocket Hippo,a Mc Gizmo of some sort, and a Caran d'Ache pen.

Usually I do carry a pen, a folder (usually 2), and a light, but what I had in mind was a single thing that would combine all three. It would be mainly in case one of the other items were lost, forgotten, battery/ink ran out, etc. Let's be honest, it's an excuse to buy a new toy in a new format, but I think it could prove itself useful.

Tool logic has some items that are in the ballpark of what I want, but no exact fit. It sounds like there may be nobody out there making quite what I'm looking for.

I have a Caran d'Ache Ecridor XS, Chevron Rhodium. It has the stock refills in it.

A chris Reeves fixed blade with pen and light in the handle. yeah, I know it might not meet the criterea, just a suggestion.

Three things that I always try to have on my person are (in order of importance) a knife, pen, and flashlight.
so what brands you prefer?
My faforites: SpacePen, SureFire 6PL-BK, Almar S2K

My pen is Fisher (spacepen) x-750, my light surefire A2, and my folders a) Darrel Ralph Trigger (sport utility knife(SUK)) b) Wm. Henry Attache w/ 2" blade(sheeple-friendly knife (sfk)). Also I have a photon light on my keyring that I tend to use a lot, and the battery finally died, which partly inspired this thread.

If I had a small, light, pen/light/blade combo I could carry it and always have backups to everything! Never have to feel naked again.... The Chris Reeve with light and pen in the (hollow) handle is a good one, except that fixed blades are illegal where I live.

I already carry too many knives. I cut down a BIC round stick to 4-7/8" so that it fits in any pocket in any position very comfortably clipped or unclipped. My cell phone puts out enough light to find the knife or the pen should I drop them. My brother is not going to buy such a product either. ;)
